The Breitling 765 AVI / Co-Pilot Series of Watches - Part III - Monochrome Watches
The introduction of the automatic chronograph movement was a cataclysmic event for the Swiss watch industry. Up to this point there were only two kinds of watches: the self-winding watch, and the chronograph. In 1969 however this discord passed into history. A fusion of these two became a new reality. In this third and final part of the history of the Breitling 765 AVI / Co-Pilot we are going to examine the impact that the automatic chronograph had for the Avi-Co-Pilot family of chronographs up to their demise in the late 1970's.Returning to the AVI/Co-Pilot series we must stress that initially, the introduction of the automatic chronograph did not have any major impact?in the lineup. However, the year 1969 marked a radical departure. The watches grew up a little bit, from 41mm bezel diameter to a 42.4 mm diameter, however were still powered by the manually wound chronograph calibres. There were three ‘new’ references, plus one. First of all the ref.7650, which was basicall
Baselworld... or the new fashion collection of watches - Monochrome Watches
This month?most of?the big watch brands in the watch industry will show their new creations at the annual watch trade show in Basel, which is called Baselworld. Last month the Richemont brands (think: Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Lange &?Sohne, Cartier, etc.) had their ‘fashion show’ in Geneva during the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie or short SIHH.?Among this years novelties there where beauties and beasts, and I think the beasts outnumbered the beauties. ?Let’s have a look at this year’s beauties and one ‘beast’. gets the honor of releasing the most ‘ugly beast’ this year. The new 44 mm large Yachtmaster II features a countdown mechanism on a very busy and ‘loud’ dial. Although the ‘normal’ Yachtmaster was never one of my favourites, I definitely prefer it over this one. Yachtmaster IIMy absolute number 1 of the Beauties this year, is a simple divewatch with classic looks. T
Interesting deal for Omega Speedmaster collectors - the Moonfire book - Monochrome Watches
Moonfire is not a book about watches. However since it’s about the historic Apollo 11 Moon landing, i think most Omega Speedmaster collectors will find it an interesting book. Especially now the price dropped drastically. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 Moon landing, Taschen Publishers and Norman Mailer joined forces to create a unique tribute to the defining scientific mission of our time. In 1969 Norman Mailer wrote about the Apollo mission for Life magazine. Moonfire is loaded with beautiful photos from the archives of NASA, Life magazine and many other resources. So why am i writing about this book? I think it’s an interesting book for fans of the Omega Speedmaster. However when the book was published, last year, it was limited to 1969 copies and the price was simply outrageous. The first 1957 numbered copies came in a white resin box with a convex plexiglas window accompanied by a framed photo that was signed by Buzz Aldrin, one of the astr

Anonimo Nautilo Sailing Edition hands-on (specs & price)
Founded in the late 1990s, Anonimo combines Swiss precision with rugged Italian sports chic, producing highly functional watches with a robust, modern feel. Among its?latest collections - and a favorite within the Monochrome team – the Nautilo Sailing Edition is an attractive red-black dive watch inspired by the marine background of the brand. It was released in the frame of a sailing partnership as Anonimo has teamed-up with SFS headed by skipper Lionel Pean. The Anonimo Nautilo Sailing Edition is a contemporary re-interpretation of the diving watches designed by the military engineer Dino Zei. Dino Zei was at the helm of Panerai for over 20 years, until Richemont took control of the brand in 1997, and later joined Anonimo. The idea of the founders of Anonimo (in particular Federico Massacesi) was that the product, with distinctive functional design, should always come before the brand itself. For this reason, the brand didn't appear on the dial for a long time. The choice of the
