LVMH Reaches Agreement to Buy Tiffany & Co. for $16.2 Billion - Industry News
The World Is Not Enough does not only apply to James Bond… It could also work for Bernard Arnault, the CEO of the world’s largest luxury group: LVMH. Already the owner of some of the most prestigious fashion, leather goods, hotels, vineyards, perfumes, department stores and watch/jewellery brands, the French group has just announced a new name in its massive (to say the least) portfolio this morning… LVMH is about to acquire Tiffany & Co., the leading U.S. jewellery brand.?Tiffany & Co. is one of the world’s leading jewellery brands. Founded in New York City by Charles Lewis Tiffany in 1837, the brand has since become “synonymous with elegance, innovative design, fine craftsmanship and creative excellence”. Today, with more than 14,000 employees, Tiffany & Co. and its subsidiaries design, manufacture and market jewellery, watches and luxury accessories - including more than 5,000 skilled artisans who cut diamonds and craft jewellery in th
IWC Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante Edition Boutique Munich / Paris
Following its?launch in 1995, the IWC Portugieser Chrono-graph Rattrapante (Ref. 3712) quickly gained?the status of icon. For a start it was?a?Portugieser (which alone makes this watch totally emblematic of the?Schaffhausen-based manufacture) plus it?also featured?quite a special split-second chronograph complication. Yes, it is a rattrapante but that’s not what made it special per se. It’s special because at the time it was a?simple and accessible rattrapante, which?was very cool. Unfortunately, this watch was discontinued in?2006… Until earlier this year that, when it was revived?in a gold limited edition for Milano. Today that model is joined?by two siblings, this time in stainless steel?– which?is really cool. Born in 2007 and reviving the look of one of the brand’s most sought-after vintage dive watches, the Longines?Legend Diver has since its introduction become a sort of pillar in the winged hourglass’ collection. Patek Philippe 5178G Minute Repeater Cathedral Gongs - Review with Sound (Specs & Price)
Recently, Xavier and I had the pleasure to visit Patek Philippe’s manufacture, from the case and bracelet factory to the Haute Horlogerie ateliers. It’s only once you’ve been there that you can understand that something truly special is going on, especially at the HH workshop. Patek Philippe minute repeaters, which are manufactured there, have always been known to be best-in-class. And believe me, they are. To understand why we had the rare opportunity to go hands-on with the latest addition to the collection, the?Patek Philippe 5178G – which is also the occasion to explain the concept of?Cathedral Gongs and, of course, we have the sound too. The?Patek Philippe 5178G Minute RepeaterAt first sight, the?Patek Philippe 5178G is a rather simple watch. Relatively reasonable in terms of proportions, based on a simple time-only display, showing an elegant and highly traditional case… There’s nothing to lead you to imagine that something very complex ticks in
Panerai Mare Nostrum 42mm PAM00716 (Specs & Price)
Mare Nostrum, “Our Sea” in latin. It’s a term that invariably brings to mind a?rare and exclusive model for?Panerai collectors. Indeed, back in the early days of the Florentine?manufacture, a chronograph was?created, one that is so rare it has become a legend. Based on this concept?and on the few pieces of documentation available from?that time, Panerai made a first re-edition of this Mare Nostrum chronograph in 1993 (Ref. 5218-301), the year?the first collection of Panerai watches were made for civilian use – a watch that has become iconic. For 2017, this model returns?in a faithful (but again rare) tribute version, the?Panerai Mare Nostrum 42mm PAM00716.History of the Panerai Mare Nostrum Collection, from 1943 to 2017The 1943 Prototype – Back in 1943, Officine Panerai created a few prototypes?of a chronograph made for?deck officers of the Royal Italian Navy. However, these watches?never went into production and remained an idea only, a concept and they w
