Is this the luxury sports watch that you were expecting? Well, better forget everything you know about luxury sports watches and anything you could have imagined beforehand. Two shaped pushers allow you to switch the day of the week and date indications, which adds a bit of a Zeitwerk-spirit to the new steel Lange. Let’s welcome the first Lange that you can wear in the board room AND when diving off the board into a swimming pool.Introductory note…Odysseus might just be the most polarizing watch in A. In-Depth: The History of the ETA 2824, The Mundane Calibre that shaped the industry
The ETA 2824 movement was a groundbreaking invention that left a lasting impact on the watchmaking industry. Introduced in the 1970s, the ETA 2824 quickly set the standard with its efficient mass production and reliable performance. It retained its popularity for over fifty years until the circumstances and demand for innovation led to the creation of the Powermatic 80, a movement designed to surpass the 2824-2 and uphold ETA’s legacy of excellence in the ever-evolving industrial process. Below is a summary of ETA 2824’s life, and it continues our series on mass-produced workhorse calibres that we started with the Valjoux 7750.Born to live strongIn the stories about the birth and origins of one of the most common watch calibres, the ETA 2824, which preceded the 2824-1 and 2824-2, I’ve encountered opinions mentioning Eterna’s 1955 calibre 1247 as a distant relative; some mentioned the Eterna-Matic, introduced in 1948, as a predecessor. Omega Speedmaster 38mm Co-Axial Chronograph Full Gold
The first watch to land on the Moon has fascinated men and women alike. In 2017, exactly 60 years after the debut of the first Speedmaster, the legendary watch made its debut in a 38mm case, a size far better suited to women's wrists. Easily recognisable as a Speedmaster chronograph, the 38mm models diverge from the men's models with their oval sub-dials and an oval date window at 6 o'clock. Up until today, the Speedmaster 38mm was offered in a choice of steel and bi-metal steel and gold cases and women could also opt for a diamond-set bezel without sacrificing the presence of the all-important tachymetre scale. For 2020, the 38mm Speedmaster collection expands with the arrival of two new full-gold models; one in Sedna gold and the other in 18k yellow gold, both available with or without diamonds on the bezel. Sedna Gold ‘Cappuccino’One of the most popular models in 2017 was the cappuccino', an attractive bi-metal Sedna gold and steel case with a two-
Hands-On - Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Opaline Titanium (Price)
Laurent Ferrier is coming up for its tenth anniversary this year and celebrates with the release of this Classic Origin Opaline watch in a 40mm Grade 5 titanium case and the pared-down elegance we have come to associate with Laurent Ferrier. The first time the brand recurs to titanium, this straightforward time-only model with small seconds at 6 o'clock has an elegant dash of sportiness with touches of burgundy and grey on the dial. And in addition to that, there’s also a version of the brand’s proprietary movement inside. From strength to strengthNot many watchmakers found a brand, produce a watch and win an important prize in the same year. The son and grandson of watchmakers with a long career at Patek Philippe as creative director, Laurent Ferrier went solo in 2010 setting up shop in Geneva. His first watch, the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral secured the men's watch prize at the GPHG 2010. Its deceptively simple dial with no trace of a tourbillon belied the sophi
