A. Lange & Sohne Richard Lange Minute Repeater (Price)
The minute repeater, often regarded as one of the most challenging complications to master, returns to A. Lange & Sohne. Unlike earlier models, such as the uber-complex 2013 Grand Complication or the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater that combine chiming mechanisms with other complications, the Richard Lange Minute Repeater goes solo. Shining a light on a new and improved chiming mechanism, the austere 39mm platinum case is married to a sober white enamel dial. The Richard Lange Minute Repeater is fitted with a new manual-winding movement, the 69th in-house calibre of the brand, and decorated with exquisite hand finishings. A deceptively straightforward classical dial, the striking spectacle is staged on the reverse side of the watch. The Richard Lange collection is named after the founder's son Richard who became partner of Ferdinand A. Lange's company in 1868. An outstanding watch designer, Richard Lange was also a prominent scientist and improved the elasticity of the balance spring by ad
A guide to the Certifications and Quality Seals - Monochrome Watches
COSC, Geneva Seal, Fleurier Quality Foundation, ISO standards Watchmakers endorse their products with various certification marks to demonstrate their commitment to quality. These certifications address to multiple aspects of quality, relating to criteria as different as precision, durability, robustness, aesthetic or even provenance. This installment of A Technical Perspective provides a guide to quality and chronometric certifications seals.A bit of historyVery early, and well-before marketing or advertising were theorized, watchmakers worked on building a reputation of quality around their products and their name. The concept of chronometry really developed during the 18th century, when long-haul travellers needed sharp timekeepers to enable them to determine their position at sea reliably. Manufacturing precise watches became a subject of competition between watchmakers, specifically at observatories, which were founded as guardians of accurate time. There was fierce rivalry at obs
Spotted - The IWC Pilot's Watches SFTI of Top Gun: Maverick
Recently, we were able to confirm what was the watch worn by Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, the 2022 blockbuster and sequel to the cult 1986 movie. And yes, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is back to action with the (almost) same Valjoux-powered black PVD-coated Porsche Design x Orfina Chronograph – to be fully accurate, it is not the same watch as worn in the 1986 movie, but one in a much better condition. Pretty cool, pretty accurate too. But there is much more to Top Gun: Maverick when it comes to watches… Jennifer Connelly for instance wears a vintage Explorer 1016. And then, there are the young wolves, the recruited pilots to train at Top Gun… And to make it very accurate indeed, they all wear IWC Pilot’s Watches SFTI models, the same “Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor” watches that are?only available to instructors and students in real life.?Everybody passionate about fighter jets and movies related to this will tell you that the origina
Panerai PAM 00557 - Left Luminor 1950 3-Days 47mm - Monochrome Watches
When Panerai launched the PAM127 a.k.a. 1950 a.k.a. Fiddy, back in 2002, they could never have thought that this very model would cause so much. Collectors went crazy about it and three years later Angelo Bonati (Panerai's CEO) gave the green light for a left-hand version of the Fiddy (PAM 00217). Two years ago (2011) there was the PAM372 that won collector's hearts all over again, and at next year's SIHH they are going to introduce the lefty version of the PAM372, being the PAM 00557 Luminor 1950 3-Days 47mm. Not only a whole mouthful but also a whole “wristful.”As the name already reveals, the case is 47 mm in diameter. The crown and iconic crown protector are now positioned on the left side of the case, making it more easy for left-handed people to wind the watch and adjust the time. But you don't have to be a southpaw, to buy this lefty Luminor 1950 3-Days.When Panerai made the first watches for the Italian navy, mechanical wristwatches and other mechanical instruments
The E.C. Andersson North Sea II (Specs & Price)
Today, we are going hands-on with an interesting new watch from a brand we first wrote about in 2016. Back then, Swedish brand E.C. Andersson was running a Kickstarter campaign to fund its first model, the military/marine inspired North Sea. As you may recall, the campaign was ultimately successful, and the first collection sold out. Now, the team are back with their second collection, the North Sea II, which looks very similar to the first version but features a number of subtle, yet important, updates. Given the popularity of the original model, keeping the same aesthetic is definitely not a bad thing. Read on for our detailed review of this comfortable yet robust timekeeper, that's happily, still also very affordable.Scandinavian design is renowned for its focus on functional simplicity, without compromising on the details and North Sea II certainly lives up this reputation. The overall design has a certain rawness to it, giving the watch something of an industrial look and feel. It
