Hands-On - The Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel
Introduced a couple of weeks ago, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel came as a surprise. Not that this original display of the time feels irrelevant when looking at the brand’s heritage (far from that), but it isn’t exactly what we expected the brand to revive. Despite its fascinating nature, wandering hour displays are rare, but Audemars Piguet has decided to introduce something more playful and almost kinetic inside the case of its Code 11.59. And that isn’t a bad thing, after all. Now that we’ve had a chance to experience this new Starwheel in the metal, here’s what we can tell you… (Spoiler: compared to the 1990s Star Wheel, it really is a different beast.)One of the oldest non-traditional displaysDespite the highly modern result and the fact that wandering hour complications have been used by some of the most creative indie watchmakers of the last two decades (think Urwerk, Hautlence or?Moser) or more traditional brands (such as Parmigi
Hands-On - The 2022 Pasha de Cartier Skeleton ADLC (Specs & Price)
The Pasha de Cartier collection has a wonderful background story involving the fabulously wealthy Pasha El Glaoui of Marrakech and his request to Louis Cartier to produce a gold waterproof watch with enough panache to accompany him on any of his countless social appointments. The only snag with this story is that the alleged 1932 model has never materialised (see below). Be that as it may, the one fact we can confirm is that Gerald Genta was the designer behind the Pasha collection of 1985. Faithful to Cartier‘s tradition of shaped cases, the Pasha plays with the geometry of a square inside a circle and is easy to recognise thanks to its cabochon-capped crown protector attached to a small chain. Among the 2022 releases was a surprising and not very publicised version that proved even more surprising in the dark. We take a closer look at this Pasha de Cartier Skeleton ADLC.The classic, closed dial version of the Pasha de Cartier, in its revamped version of 2020The Pasha, as we kno
The "Goodwood Festival of Speed" Edition - Live Stream, News and Our Own Reports - Monochrome Watches
Goodwood FoS “Festival of Speed”… If you’re into cars, you probably know that this event has become one of the major car-related events of the year. But on the contrary to the cold halls of the Paris “Mondial de l’Auto” or the Geneva International Motor Show, Goodwood FoS is all about smoking tyres, noise, action and accessibility to the cars for the general public! And since the 2019 edition is happening right now, let’s head to our “Petrolhead Corner” for some Goodwood fun. What is Goodwood FoS…? Everything that happens at Goodwood results from the dream of one man, Charles Gordon-Lennox, known in the automotive world as Lord March. As a young aristocrat, March was living the life of a London playboy, passionate about photography and films. As heir to the Goodwood family estate in West Sussex, and as a true blue-blooded British gentleman, he knew that traditions were important and so from that time onwards, the Charles
Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Bronze "Fratello" Edition
The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date is one of the brand’s all-time classics, a watch that has helped Oris weather the storm in the 1980s and a watch with a specific resonance on the Dutch market. This watch is special for the brand and, without surprise, it is the watch that the Fratello team selected for their new collaboration piece. Of course, Robert-Jan and his team wanted to make this watch special, unique and personal. So they decided to mix what’s the most handsome dial colour available with a case material that emphasises the vintage look. The result: this new Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Bronze “Fratello” Edition. The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date was reintroduced at Baselworld 2018, returning to the brand’s catalogue as a full collection. However, this watch is far more important for the brand and carries an almost century-old history. The Big Crown Pointer Date made its debut in 1938 and was characterised by an oversized crown so that pilots could adjus
Introducing the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Collection Excellence Platine - Monochrome Watches
In the past years Vacheron Constantin has been harmonizing their collections, yet within the new line-up they kept some room for one very special collection, comprising only platinum watches. This is the Collection Platine Excellence and the newest piece within that collection is the Patrimony Collection Platine Excellence. Like the other models in the Collection Platine Excellence, it features the distinctive sand-blasted platinum dial that adds an ‘understated cool’ to it. The Patrimony that we’re looking at today isn’t exactly new, as it already exists in the Patrimony collection, albeit in 18k pink or white gold (with creme/eggshell or slate grey dial). Like most of its siblings in this collection, its name is just “Patrimony” plus a reference number, so it doesn’t carry a “Small Seconds” binomial as in the past. It’s just “Patrimony” and although this one has a small second sub dial, there are also models with
