A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Moon Phase 25th Anniversary - Round Six - Monochrome Watches
The never-ending birthday party of the Lange 1 receives its sixth celebratory watch, the Lange 1 Moon Phase 25th Anniversary. As the ambassador of the Saxon brand, the Lange 1 is being regaled with ten very special watches, unveiled one by one on a monthly basis until October 2019. Gift-wrapped in the same silver and blue colour scheme as the five preceding models, this is the second moon phase model in the anniversary line-up but with a twist.?Celebrating the quarter century of the Lange 1Like all the previous birthday presents, the Lange 1 Moon Phase is a limited edition watch (25 pieces) decked out in a white gold case with blue details on the dial and special decorative flourishes on the movement. The complete birthday package is comprised of 10 watches and kicked off with this classic Lange 1 with a hinged caseback, followed by Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase, the Little Lange 1, the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar (the most complex model so far) and the Lange 1 Time Zone. This anni
Hands-on Frederique Constant Manufacture Perpetual Calendar, a QP priced under €8,000 (Live photos) - Monochrome Watches
Among the classical watchmaking complications, the perpetual calendar is certainly one of the most desirable, as being a strong technical achievement. Because of what it does (being able to have a watch correctly adjusted for the coming 100 years…), it is sought after by collectors and can be seen as a sort of achievement in a collection. However, as expected, this is not a cheap type of watches. Well, it was not until a few years and it is even truer now, as at Baselworld 2016, a QP priced under 8,000 Euros has been launched, the?Frederique Constant Manufacture Perpetual Calendar. And don’t expect it to be featured with a poor content, as it has several arguments under the hood. What is a Perpetual Calendar and why it isn’t cheap? Before we start with this short technical explanation, we recently published a complete overview on the subject, here. To understand why a perpetual calendar exists, we first have to remind that our calendar, the Gregorian Calendar, is based
Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 5524R (Specs & price)
Let’s be honest… The Patek Philippe?Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 5524G (the white gold version) was a hot topic of discussion when launched at Baselworld 2015. Whatever the intrinsic qualities of this watch, it has been misunderstood. Too early, too radical, too different maybe. 3 years have passed now and there’s a new version in the collection, now in rose gold with a warm brown dial, under the ref. 5524R. With this new combination of colours, we think it’s time for the reconciliation. Let’s have a closer look at the now very-Patekish Rose gold Calatrava Pilot. This new rose gold version of the 5524 is nothing more than a change of colours – for both the case and the dial – and the men’s version of a pair of watches introduced coincidentally at Baselworld 2018. Indeed, not only Patek has updated the men’s model but a ladies’ version has also been added to the collection, the?Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 7234R Lady and its 37.5m
HYT Hastroid Green Laser (Specs & Price)
As we’ve explained in this article published about 2 months ago, an important new chapter in the story of HYT Watches has just opened. After a complex period, and with a new CEO at its head – an industry veteran known as Davide Cerrato – the brand is back on track and comes with its spacecraft trunk fully loaded with new models, but with the distinctive meca-fluidic technology sound and safe. The name of this new opus in the HYT saga is Hastroid, and following the inaugural edition, the Green Nebula, it’s time for the second chapter to be released. Meet the new HYT Hastroid Green Laser. And indeed, it couldn’t be more green.?The HYT Hastroid Green Nebula, the edition that marked the return of the brand in early 2022.Everything we’ve explained over the past few months is still true for this new model. To make the story short, HYT has always been one of the most fascinating and original brands of the independent watchmaking scene. In addition to creati
Sarpaneva Korona K1 - Monochrome Watches
It’s been roughly 9 months since I bought my ‘grail-watch’, the Korona K1 from the Finnish watchmaker Stepan Sarpaneva. So enough experience to sit down and write about this watch that’s been on my wrist almost permanently for almost 9 months. My Sarpaneva Korona K1 was my first watch from an independent watchmaker and also my most luxurious/expensive watch ever. When Stepan Sarpaneva told me the watch that I ordered was ready, I booked a ticket to Helsinki to pick it up myself. Here you can read the report of my trip to Helsinki. Now it’s time for a review to share my experiences of owning and wearing a Sarpaneva Korona K1. In May of last year it was finally time. The months before had been an intense period. Of course a decision like this was not made overnight, so long lists of potential watches had to be narrowed down. Or maybe the decision was not so difficult, it was just me having difficulty with spending so much money on a watch.?When my decision w
