Blue is an important colour for the brand and it was time for the Black Bay Fifty-Eight, the smaller and thinner version of Tudor's iconic dive watch to be presented in blue, replacing the warm colours of the black model with a blue, domed matte dial and a blue anodized aluminium bezel insert. Besides that, all the technical elements are retained. The 39mm diameter case with brushed surfaces and polished bevels, screw-down crown with the
Introducing the Chopard L.U.C XPS in Fairmined Gold - Live photos - Monochrome-Watches
Our industry – watchmaking – can easily be seen as far, very far away from responsible matters. How would this be possible from an industry able to sell 40mm objects at more than 300.000 Euros? In fact, there is an organization that applies sustainable considerations to luxury, both jewelry and horology: Fairmined gold. This standard?performs responsible artisanal and small-scale mining, through mining operations, environmental protection, labor conditions, traceability of Fairmined?minerals and socio-economic development. Don’t expect this to come in an ugly watch (like those ugly brown recycle napkins). This responsible artisanal gold is featured in a very elegant and desirable watch, the?Chopard L.U.C XPS Fairmined.To prove the world that the watchmaking industry can also take into account the fate of people exploiting mines, Chopard has decided since a few years now to develop a partnership with Fairmined,?a certification guaranteeing that the gold used to craft s
Why I think the Omega CK 859 is the best new Omega of the year.
Usually, when a brand launches one or more new models, or perhaps even an entire collection, they want to generate a bit of buzz. Get the news out with a big bang, creating a splash upon launch that ripples through for a couple of days or even weeks. I sometimes wonder then, why from time to time a novelty is quietly and unexpectedly released. Case in point, the incredibly gorgeous Omega CK 859 Re-edition. No press release, no big campaign, just a devilishly good-looking watch no one saw coming. And to me, it's hands-down the best new Omega we will be seeing this year.I have several reasons why I genuinely believe this is the hottest watch coming from Omega in 2022 and I will happily explain. The backstory of this watch and its release is funny, and a-typical of the industry. It wasn't announced by Omega itself or an affiliated PR agency. It was just there out of the blue. Spotted on social media, we reached out to Omega to find out more and it tested our patience a little. What was go
First Look: TAG Heuer Brings a Beads-of-Rice Bracelet to the Carrera Glassbox Collection
Bracelets are a perfect example of how functionality and aesthetics work harmoniously, producing visually striking and surprisingly practical, literally pleasing results. A well-crafted bracelet elevates the value of a watch, which is why collectors pay such close attention to them – far more than the average wearer, for whom metal links may seem simple and utilitarian. And in many cases, they are. Enters the Beads-of-Rice for the Carrera Glassbox.One of the most iconic bracelet designs, the Beads-of-Rice (BoR) style first appeared in the 1940s and has recently experienced a resurgence driven by the retro/vintage trend. Renowned for its exceptional comfort – thanks to numerous links, a great articulation and often rounded profile – the BoR bracelet has inspired many variations over the decades. Among the legendary bracelet makers, Gay Freres – once an independent company before acquired it in the 1990s – played a significant role in shaping this aspect o
2008 -> 2009 - Monochrome Watches
2008 has been quite an exiting year when it comes to watches. As a collector and admirer of fine timepieces i have seen some great new watches. Technically the brands start working with new materials, not only for the cases, but also for movement parts. When it comes to design it seem that the main focus is still on large watches, but i wouldn’t be amazed if this will change next year already.Coming from the Netherlands it also made me proud to see the birth of a new Dutch watch brand. The brother Bart and Tim Gronefeld showed their first watch during the European GTG a friend and i organised last november. The Gronefeld GTM06 shows an incredibly high standard of finish and the minite repaeter gong… well, you have to hear them to believe the incredible sound coming from a small wristwatch!From a personal point of view i hope to see some more reasonably priced and reasonably sized watches next year. Not every brand needs a tourbillon i think. And not every brand needs to hav
