Watches NEWS
Introducing The Carillon Tourbillon Biver, The First Watch of JCBiver and His Son
The news broke about a year ago – industry veteran Jean-Claude Biver and his son were about launch their own brand. The idea was to launch a “small family brand, for passionate people, and very exclusive watches“. Off the record, the first watch was to be a carillon minute repeater tourbillon with a micro-rotor presented in spring 2023. The promise has been kept. A few days ago, we joined Jean-Claude Biver and his son Pierre Biver in their new facility in Givrins, a small village between Geneva and Lausanne, to discover the Carillon tourbillon Biver and the father-and-son’s plans for the future. Their first opus combines classic design codes, distinctive character and a high-movement. We also had the opportunity to discuss their future projects and exciting watches are in development: a beautiful three-hander, a jaw-dropping chronograph and even more in the coming years! But this is for later. One of the most prominent figures in the watch
Introducing The Function-Packed Ollech & Wajs OW Astrochron
The Ollech & Wajs 1967 Astrochron was one of the first chronographs suited for professional divers thanks to its 200m water-resistant case. Equipped with a Valjoux 72 movement, a movement it shared with models like the original Daytona, the Astrochron has been selected by Ollech & Wajs for a remake this year. While the Astrochron borrows some design cues from its 1967 ancestor and is powered by a descendant of the historic Valjoux 72, it is equipped with a host of functions to keep you covered in just about any terrain. With double the depth rating of the original and fitted with a regatta countdown timer and a 360-degree rotating compass bezel, the Astrochron chronograph is a mighty robust and function-packed action watch.Brief bioOllech & Wajs was founded in 1956 by Albert Wajs and Joseph Ollech in Zurich and started life retailing watches from Omega and Breitling. The business expanded to specialise in the assembly of movements from ETA, Dubois Depraz and Valjoux insid
TAG Heuer and Abarth partner with the Abarth 595 Competizione by TAG Heuer and a dedicated Carrera - Monochrome Watches
Abarth, the customization department of Fiat that some of you may know for the funky 1970s cars and numeral victories in rally, is about to launch a new limited edition of its fastest, funniest car, the?Abarth 595 Competition resulting here from a partnership with TAG Heuer. This?Abarth 595 Competizione by TAG Heuer features a specific matte grey wrapping, 17″ racing wheels, Brembo brakes and racing seats in Alcantara… Wait, is Monochrome-Watches turning into a car magazine?… No worries, the main point of interest here concerns what will be delivered with the car, a specific limited edition watch, the TAG Heuer Carrera Abarth 595 Competizione. Why is this partnership so cool? Usually, watches associated to cars are of two types. The first ones are made on request of the brand and sold directly by the car manufacture, like the not-so-cheap quartz Ferrari watches, sold on their own website or BMW watches sold at the car dealer. The other types are watches made by watch m
Introducing the Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer in Black and Orange - Monochrome Watches
Most of certainly know the Planet Ocean collection, which in a few years, became a sort of a norm for the Seamaster. This high-performance dive watch is known for its 600m water resistance and helium escape valve but mainly (and that’s what matter for most wearers), it is recognizable because of its rather bulky and masculine design, making it successful for those in a need of sportiness. For Baselworld 2016, there’s a revamp of the collection, including this new?Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer in Black and Orange – new size, new movement, new colors, new materials… but still the iconic look. This new?Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer bears several improvements, several innovations (at least for this collection) and also brings a bunch of visual evolutions. First of all, the case will see the arrival of a new size: 43.5mm, a case that sits right in the middle of the previous 42mm and 45.5mm (as of now, we don’t know
Time to say goodbye - Monochrome Watches
Since my passion for watches began, the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso has always been one of my favorites. Even during times when I was wearing watches with the average size of 44mm (like the Panerai PAM00001 ?I owned), I still considered it as very desirable. And I still do…To explain the title of this story I have to go back to a week in september of last year (2008), when visited New York City.?One of the things on my to-do list was to visit?Wempe near Central Park. My goal? To try a Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso and possibly buy it. The dollar-euro ratio was still excellent, which was a big advantage for anyone from Europe. Ad - Scroll to continue with article Although I knew the Reverso is a small wristwatch, I didn’t expect it to be too small. But I did… it just didn’t feel right. The sales person (excellent service by the way!!) suggested I&
