First Look: The New IWC Ingenieur Automatic 42 Black Ceramic (Incl. Video)
IWC staged the much-anticipated return of its Ingenieur in 2023, an iconic reference designed by the late Gerald Genta. Recovering genetic traits of Genta's famous 1976 Ingenieur SL Jumbo reference 1832, the current collection was rekindled with a handsome, fully integrated 40mm Automatic in steel and titanium. The latest Ingenieur Automatic is slightly larger and dressed in black ceramic from head to toe for a sharper, more technical look. Another aspect that distinguishes it from the regular 40mm Automatics is the incorporation of IWC's in-house 82110 calibre.Developed in 1955 for technical and scientific applications, the Ingenieur was water and shock-resistant and fitted with a soft-iron cage to protect the movement from magnetism. The watch's original 1950s dress watch aesthetics were given a radical overhaul by Gerald Genta in 1976. With its large 40mm case, wide bored bezel with five functional screws, sculpted integrated H-link bracelet and grid dial, Genta's Ingenieur SL Jumbo
Hands-On - A. Lange & Sohne Odysseus White Gold on Rubber (Price)
When this watch was launched, our founder Frank wrote this “On 24 October 2019, A. Lange & Sohne introduced something entirely new, an important step for this usually rather conservative high-end watch brand; it was a sports watch, made in stainless steel, with a bracelet – three unprecedented features for ALS that made this very watch, the Odysseus, a hot topic of conversation.” Since then, the dust should have settled, but the Odysseus remains something of an oddity and a watch that remains highly discussed (also because of its availability). But a few months after the steel version, the brand enlarged the range with a more luxurious, not-so-sporty edition of its sports watch, now made of white gold. We had the opportunity to have a review sample at the office, and here’s what we found out about this A. Lange & Sohne Odysseus in White Gold. Two things are certain about the A. Lange & Sohne Odysseus. It was a bold move from a usually conservative, ty
Hands-On Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph
In September 2021, Audemars Piguet introduced two new models to its Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph?line-up. Decked out in light blue or khaki, there are plenty of novelties on the dial and in the strap department, but above all, the big news is the incorporation of Audemars Piguet’s latest automatic flyback chronograph movement, calibre 4404. As always, it’s the characteristic mix of sporty toughness with refined details that has made the Royal Oak Offshore?one of the most coveted watches in the luxury sports watch market. With sizes ranging from 37mm all the way up to a whopping 45mm for the impressive ROO Tourbillon Chronograph, the Royal Oak Offshore?is a well-represented collection with everything from a Grande Complication to bejewelled chronographs and 300m water-resistant divers. Introducing Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin White Gold & Blue Dial
Chopard's first L.U.C calibre with a flying tourbillon made its debut at Baselworld 2019 in a rose gold case with a grey dial. The epitome of a contemporary dress watch with a nod to the past, Chopard's ultra-thin flying tourbillon returns this year in an ethical 18k white gold case with a handsome blue guilloche dial in a limited edition run of 50 pieces. Although it exhibits traditional complications like the tourbillon and traditional decorative techniques like guillochage, the L.U.C Flying T Twin does not fall into the category of a traditional' or classical' watch. Rather, it comes across as a remarkably elegant and refined contemporary dress watch powered by a sophisticated ultra-thin movement with a robust power reserve. Like its predecessor, the watch is COSC chronometer-certified and flaunts the prestigious Poin?on de Geneve seal of quality. What’s in a name?Accustomed as we are to brands with watch names that run on for miles, Chopard's collections tend to stick to short
Baltic Aquascaphe Diver / Value Proposition Review (Specs & Price)
After successfully funding its first collection via Kickstarter, Baltic Watches has managed to stand the test of time and to survive this inaugural series of watches. Even better, the small concept became a brand and has started to expand its collection – and there are many more watches to come (but we can’t tell you yet…) Today, we look at what Etienne Malec has created as his second model, a great-looking, still accessible, no-nonsense tool dive watch with vintage inspiration; the Baltic Aquascaphe Diver.ConceptBaltic Watches is the brainchild of Etienne Malec, a young Frenchman who has inherited his father's passion for watches – something he shared with us already, some years ago. An avid collector, his father spent years putting together a collection of exceptional timepieces, some of which have inspired the designs of Baltic's first two models. Sadly though, Etienne's father passed away when Etienne was still quite young and so they were never able to trul
