Weekly Watch Photo - The Extraordinary Models of the Cartier Tank Collection - Monochrome Watches
This week’s Weekly Watch Photos (WWP) is dedicated to extraordinary Tank models from Cartier. All photos are made by well-known Cartier expert and fine watches connoisseur GEO, whom you might remember from previous WWP’s showing his?Cartier Santos 100 Carbon?or timepeices from the Collection Privee Cartier Paris:?the?extremely rare Tank Cintree?and the Rotonde Day & Night. Other photos, made by Geo, that are featured in our WWP include the URWERK 103?and?two sets of the brilliant Hautlence HL05 (here and here).?Shortly before last year’s SIHH, we here at Monochrome wondered about the new Tank that Cartier was about to introduce and listed the most important Tank models that Cartier introduced?since the very first was launched in 1917. That was (again) a perfect opportunity to show Geo’s stylish and elegant photos. Today we’ll show you photos of extraordinary Tank models that Cartier introduced, but we’ll start with the very first Tank that Cartie
RGM Watch Co. Classic Enamel PS-801-CE (Specs & Price)
When you think of great American watch companies, brands like Hamilton and Waltham come to mind. Neither of those are American anymore, with Hamilton ending US production in 1969 after being acquired by the Buren Watch Company in Buren an der Aare, Switzerland. Hamilton ultimately became part of the Swatch Group and remains a popular brand today. Waltham is a bit fragmented, but now principally Waltham International SA, manufacturing luxury Swiss Made watches with the company's majority owner ironically being an American, Antonio DiBenedetto. Decades ago, both companies manufactured cases and movements, but sadly there are no longer American companies that aren't importing movements and parts. Well, except for one, which we'll review today: RGM Watch Co.RGM Watch Company, founded in 1992 by American watchmaker Roland G. Murphy, is the only American brand that still manufactures cases, dials and movements in-house. You've probably heard of American brands like Shinola or MVMT (and a lar
Hands-On - The 2022 TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition
During Watches and Wonders 2022, TAG Heuer has unveiled its second chronograph stemming from its partnership with Porsche. This partnership between the two brands was announced in 2021 and resulted from an entwined history marked by an obsession with speed and motorsports. Following the first classic stainless steel version, the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche is back in a black-and-yellow limited edition for 2022.?First and foremost, the brands have in common the Carrera name that was incarnated by Jack Heuer's 1963 chronograph and some of the carmaker's most powerful creations. In particular, both Jack Heuer and Ferry Porsche were fascinated by La Carrera Panamericana, a perilous endurance race staged in Mexico that ended up inspiring the name of Jack Heuer's chronograph and the top-performing sports cars produced by Porsche. The SNGLRTY Blue Steel OHI-4 Watch (Specs & Price)
Single-hand watches are nothing new, albeit still something of a rarity. MeisterSinger is undoubtedly the best-known brand to embrace the style, but many others have toyed with the concept. SNGLRTY has devoted its entire portfolio to single-hand watches, but all display both the hour and minutes via a clever, patented design. A common way to do this is with a jumping hour like the MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X, but SNGLRTY has figured out how to have a minute disc continuously synch with the hour hand, and it’s an industry first. We go in-depth with the SNGLRTY Blue Steel OHI-4.BackgroundSeveral years ago, Stephen Mansfield and Daniel Blunschi began brainstorming over drinks about a single-hand watch design. The ultimate goal was to create something that hadn’t been done before, where a single hand could show both the hour and minutes simultaneously. Brands have gotten creative with a single hand showing both, like Konstantin Chaykin with the Genius Temporis that will tempo
HeuerCamaro.com, a New Educational Website Dedicated to Heuer's Sleeping Beauty: the Camaro - Monochrome Watches
When you think about Heuer watches, everybody has in mind the Jack Heuer era, meaning the Carrera (in all its executions), the Autavia and, 50th anniversary obliges, the Monaco. Yet, there are many other watches, mostly chronographs, produced under the Heuer name that deserve some attention. One of them, a true sleeping beauty, a “Heuer which has often been overlooked but one that has become increasingly associated with the true heritage and pedigree of the world-admired watch brand” (quote from the website’s author) is the Camaro. And launching today, a new website – HeuerCamaro.com – will tell you all about this great watch. The golden era of Heuer, as most collectors agree, is when Jack Heuer joined the company in the early 1960s. Under his direction, some of the greatest watches produced by the brand were born – watches that are still the foundation pillars and success stories of the modern version of this brand, TAG Heuer. Think about the 1962 Au
