A. Lange & Sohne Richard Lange Minute Repeater - Review, Price
Touted by Anthony de Haas, director of product development at A. Lange & Sohne, as the “absolute technical highlight” of Watches & Wonders 2022, the Richard Lange Minute Repeater is a case study in classicism and understatement. A far cry from the extravagance of Lange's Grand Complication of 2013 with its profusion of complications and from the 2015 Zeitwerk (decimal) Minute Repeater with jumping digital hours and minutes, the brand's latest chiming watch is a pure minute repeater sans the distraction of any additional complications. According to de Haas, the Richard Lange Minute Repeater is “a classical minute repeater but (made) to today's standards.” The classical personality of the watch is consolidated by the elegantly proportioned white enamel dial and the modest 39mm diameter of the platinum case; the modernity is conferred by several upgrades to protect and enhance the minute repeater mechanism integrated into the brand’s new calibre L122.
Where does the name of your favourite watch model come from? - Monochrome Watches
Ever wonder how watches got their names? A few weeks ago we told you about the brand names and their origin. Today we’re going to look at the watch model names. With hundreds of past and present watches, what has been the inspiration for watchmakers and brands to call them certain names? Some are pretty straight forward, other more obscure. Finding a great name is not an easy task and is often essential to the success of a new watch. It needs to fit within the brand’s universe, while also telling its own story. It needs to be relevant, easily pronounceable, memorable and discoverable (in particular for internet search engines today). Ideally this shall be valid in different languages and for different cultures. Lastly, with the purpose of legally protecting the product's name with a trademark application in class 14 (which includes jewellery and watches), brands need to make sure there is no infringement of an existing trademark. Hands-On - New Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Automatic 910P Blue
Even though it was unveiled without much fanfare, Piaget introduced a new 18k white gold version of its Altiplano Ultimate Automatic watch with handsome blue accents during Watches & Wonders 2021. When it was first released in 2018, the Altiplano Ultimate Automatic was the world's thinnest automatic watch with an overall height of 4.30mm, thinner than Bvlgari's 2017 Octo Finissimo (5.15mm). However, Bvlgari's Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic (3.95mm) broke the record-breaking thinness of the Altiplano Ultimate Automatic a couple of months after its debut. Nevertheless, and not diminishing its mechanical prowess, the Altiplano Ultimate Automatic is now the second thinnest automatic watch on the market and boasts very advanced mechanical solutions. With over sixty years of lean machines under its belt, Piaget's approach to movement construction is unprecedented. In the ongoing battle of ultra-thin watches, two names tower above all others: Piaget and Bvlgari. Piaget has the distinc

TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Limited Editions - Hands-On, Price
TAG Heuer watches, and specifically the Formula 1 collection (obviously, with such a name), are all about racing and motorsports – the sport most associated with the brand. And yes, they often are relatively serious, or at least very focused on real-world automobiles. But what about keeping the racing spirit alive and sending it to a different universe, something about fun and playful inspirations? Something that will speak to a nostalgic (or not) audience? Something about one of the most emblematic characters and video games of the last 30 years? Yes, TAG Heuer is back with Mario Kart and brings two watches that are at the same time serious, unprecedented and very fun indeed. Like it or not…This pair of Formula 1 limited editions marks the second instalment in the TAG Heuer x Mario Kart story, following last year’s TAG Heuer Connected model, which became a hit in stores and a must-have for true Mario Kart aficionados (and there are a lot of them). Now, the chips and
