First Look: The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding 43mm
While there have been time-and-date and triple calendar versions since the mid-1990s, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore or ROO, has always been primarily known as a chronograph watch. It was actually designed as such when it launched in 1993. In modern days, non-chronograph ROO watches were mostly known as the Diver version, which was recently revamped. Well, things have changed because now there’s a new time-and-date ROO, the sleekest to date, with the new Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding 43mm.What we’re looking at here is one of the rare Royal Oak Offshore models that does not feature a chronograph. In the current collection, most models are fitted with a chronograph complication (and other additional features), and only a handful of references have a simple time-only display. And it mostly has to do with the bold, sporty Royal Oak Offshore Diver, a 300m water-resistant watch with a 42mm case. It is now joined by another time-and-date model, this time even cleaner and
Fortis Flieger F-43 Triple GMT - Hands-On Review, Price
First created in 1987, the Fortis Flieger is a reference for pilot watches and set the tone for all subsequent Fortis pilot models. This summer, the brand launched a modern take on the model. Following the presentation of the chronograph edition and time-and-date versions, Fortis now introduces a GMT model, one of the typical functions a pilot's watch may include. This time it is made in lightweight and resilient titanium, and it is powered by an automatic movement manufactured with Kenissi. Let's take a close look at the Fortis Flieger F-43 Triple GMT.The third chapter of the rugged Fortis Flieger comes in a 43mm brushed titanium case, equipped with a 12-hour GMT bezel with a coined edge to ensure good grip. Featuring elongated angular lugs, it feels solid and instrumental, while the use of lightweight titanium adds extra-wearing comfort – and, of course, added resistance. Thanks to the screw-in caseback and crown, the watch is water-resistant to a very comfortable level of 200m
Book Review: Wheels & Watches, For Car Enthusiasts and Watch Aficionados
We’ve said this on so many occasions already… In the world of mechanical wonders, nothing is as closely related as cars and watches. Both are fueled by passion, both are mechanical (or we want them to be mechanical), both are objects to be collected and enjoyed as the perfect toys for boys?(or girls). There's something so natural between sports cars and watches, something almost identical in these slightly outdated, rather irrelevant objects that go against the current trends. While the topic has already been explored dozens of times, Wheels & Watches book takes this topic from a slightly different angle, that of the symbiotic relationship between cars and watches, and why a watch or a car matters on an emotional level to its owner.?Written by Oriol Vilanova, a man also behind Gentlemen Drive Magazine, the Wheels & Watches book covers on a solid 300 pages the strong connection that exists between two timeless passions: cars and watches. Contrary to many other public

There are not so many watchmakers that are able to celebrate their 200th anniversary. So is Bovet. Among the different events organized to mark this milestone anniversary, MONOCHROME was honoured to be invited to spend a day at Bovet's headquarters, the Motiers Castle. There, we were able to discover their brand-new museum, to attend masterclasses – watchmaking, engraving and miniature painting – and to meet Pascal Raffy, CEO and owner of the Maison as well as his daughter Audrey who joined the company a few months ago. Bovet was founded in 1822, just a few years after the Bovet brothers left their hometown of Fleurier. Edouard Bovet had headed to China where he was able to sell four of his mechanical timekeeping instruments for CHF 10,000 each. He came back from China convinced of the strength and opportunity in the Asian market, and together with his brothers, he formed the Bovet manufacture, focusing on highly decorated and chronometrically advance
