2019 Behind the Lens - Our Best Videos of the Year - Monochrome Watches
Our videos, which we’d prefer to call “in-depth movies”, are something we’re very proud of, here at MONOCHROME. We take a lot of time and energy to produce them since we believe that seeing a watch or a concept in video and not in photo dramatically helps to understand the beauty that is hidden in these timekeeping objects. This year, 2019, we’ve produced over 60 videos, which can be seen on our YouTube channel. But as we’re saying goodbye to 2019, here’s a recap of our most viewed movies of the year.Understanding the CODE 11:59 by Audemars PiguetWe start with THE most controversial collection of the year, if not of the decade… The Code 11:59 by Audemars Piguet, entirely reviewed here, which you can see in the movie below. The Return of the Oris Rectangular for the 2021 Collection
Perhaps not the best-known collection at Oris, the Rectangular is back with new proportions, colourful dials and straps. A classic dress watch with smooth Art Deco lines, the latest case size of the Oris Rectangular is designed to appeal to men and women alike. If you go to the Oris website and browse the Rectangular collection, you will see four models pop up, the four new models we are covering in this article. However, if you do a generic search for the Oris Rectangular model, some links will take you back to an older Oris website displaying a host of Rectangular models ranging from date, chronograph, GMT and even women's models. The point being that the Rectangular family is not new, although it is hard to establish the exact year of its debut. Be that as it may, the Rectangular is a stylish dress watch with some of the seriousness of classic rectangular watches (JLC Reverso, Cartier Tank) mitigated by its colourful dials and straps. Bulgari makes headlines again, this time with “the world's thinnest automatic movement“. So much so that one model has been transformed into an entire men's watch collection boasting some impressive watchmaking credentials, including two world records (thinnest tourbillon and thinnest minute repeater). It's the perfect blend of Swiss watchmaking expertise fused with an Italian
Introducing Chopard Alpine Eagle Sunburnt in Support of the Aboriginal Corporation
Introduced to the luxury sports watch scene in 2019, the Alpine Eagle draws inspiration from the original 1980s Chopard St. Moritz, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s inaugural watch creation. Since its debut, the Alpine Eagle has become an essential collection, offering authentic, contemporary, and highly compelling timepieces. For the new and distinctive Alpine Eagle Sunburnt, Chopard partnered with tattooist, punk musician and Indigenous artist Shaun Daniel Allen (Shal). A portion of the profits from this collaboration will support the programs of the Ngunya Jarjum Aboriginal Corporation in Australia. The Chopard Alpine Eagle Sunburst case measures 41mm wide and 9.7 mm thick, in line with models from the permanent collection, looking elegant and comfortable on the wrist, with the broad chamfered bezel and eight distinctive screw heads all aligned. The case is made of Chopard’s Lucent Steel alloy, which is more scratch and abrasion-resistant than traditiona
Introducing: the Mido Multifort M Freeze with Ice-Blue Dial
Mido has done a commendable job updating its Multifort collection to 21st-century technical standards and contemporary tastes. As the brand's best-selling automatic model from 1934, boasting resistance to magnetism, shocks and water, the refreshed Multifort M is a rugged, accessibly priced, all-terrain watch powered by Swatch Group's Powermatic 80 movement. An attractive new dial colour expands the collection, and as its name indicates, the Mido Multifort M Freeze is designed to evoke icy blue landscapes.Ice blue dials are in demand these days, and Mido's sister brand, Tissot, got noticed with its PRX Powermatic Ice Blue last year. The new glacial blue dial colour of the Multifort M Freeze looks great and is enhanced with a subtle gradient effect. Like earlier editions, the dial also features a vertical satin-brushed finish to evoke the C?tes de Geneve decoration of its original 1934 Multifort model. Adding texture and interest, the pronounced vertical lines also let the dial interact
