Introducing The AP Royal Oak Jumbo 16202BC Blue/White Gold
Following the release last year of an updated Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin collection – the 16202ST, for the steel model – in the frame of the 50th anniversary of the brand’s iconic watch, Audemars Piguet is today releasing a new version that, visually, will feel familiar to fans of the model. If I say 14802PT…? Yes, this extremely rare version of the Royal Oak Jumbo Jubilee 20-year, made of platinum, in only 20 examples, with some of the examples featuring a grained blue Tuscan dial. Well, it’s somehow back, with the new Royal Oak Jumbo Ultra-Thin 16202BC, a boutique-exclusive white gold version with… a grained blue dial.?The inspiration, the 20th-anniversary Royal Oak Jumbo Jubilee 14802PT, in platinum with grained blue dial – image by Phillips WatchesLooking at the image of the 14802PT above, it is obvious where AP found the inspiration. The brand doesn’t hide its strategy with the new Jumbo 16202 collection, which pays tribute to histor
Buying Guide: A Collection Of 6 Tantalizing Jumping Hour Watches
Following our Buying Guide of watches that go “DING” or even produce an entire orchestra of dings to signal the time, we’re now shifting focus to a very different but equally captivating complication, the Heures Sautantes, or Jumping Hours! This departure from the typical indication of time often relies on a hand or disc to show the correct hour for the full hour before making a jump to display the next. It sounds easy, but it is rather complex to master, as it demands a certain degree of energy built up over the course of 60 minutes, which then gets released in a controlled manner to make the jump. Now that we’ve gotten the technical principle out of the way, let’s take a look at some of the coolest examples around!d.m.h. jump hourThe Jump Hour by dingemans mechanische horloges, the one-man-brand from the Netherlands, is perhaps the simplest form of a jumping hours watch in this list, but by no means the least interesting. With a compact stainless steel c
Great read for the holidays - Monochrome Watches
My friend and fellow blogger Robert-Jan lent me some of his books about watches. He is very passionate about Omega and i will do a post about these books later, especially because they come in handy with the upcoming Antiquorum Auction in New York, where a lot of very special vintage Omega watches will be auctioned. Some of these books are perfect ‘coffee table’ books but on a lazy sunday afternoon they are an excellent read. Besides these books there are also the reference books. One of my personal favorites is ‘Vintage Sports Watches’ written by Skeet & Urul. I don’t look at it as the ‘coffee table’ book, but this book has become a reference bible for everything i want to know about sportswatches. Hands-On - The Ulysse Nardin Freak X Razzle Dazzle (Specs & Price)
According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, the term razzle-dazzle is used to describe “(confusion caused by) noisy and noticeable activity or very colourful appearance, intended to attract attention“. Eliminating the adjective ‘colourful’ from the dictionary description, it seems to be a fair description of the dizzying black and white geometric patterns donned on the latest Freak X. To be more precise, the zigzagging pattern pays homage to a camouflage technique known as ‘dazzle’ adopted by British ships painted with crisscrossing likes to confuse the enemy and make it hard for German U-boats to estimate the range, speed and direction of the ship. Similar to Op art, a style of optical art popular in the 1960s that used abstract geometric shapes to create optical illusions, the razzle-dazzle painting on British ships proved extremely effective and saved many lives. It also fits very nicely with Ulysse Nardin's longstanding tradition of providing
Kering Appoints Patrick Pruniaux as CEO of Girard-Perregaux (In Addition to Ulysse Nardin)
Following Antonio Calce's departure a few weeks ago, French luxury group Kering has announced the appointment of Patrick Pruniaux as CEO of its Swiss watchmaking Maisons. Therefore, the current CEO of Ulysse Nardin will now also manage Girard-Perregaux, one of the most prestigious names of Swiss Haute Horlogerie and in turn guide the brand to meet current challenges. The reorganisation will most likely help provide greater synergies between the two Haute Horlogerie brands. Pruniaux is tasked with “accelerating the development of the two Maisons?in international markets, while at the same time maintaining their unique characteristics” as “today’s?luxury watchmaking sector is known for its accelerating product cycles, the increasingly global nature of its customers and the transformation of their expectations, both in terms of e-commerce and digital interactions“.
