First Look: The Travis Scott x AP Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked "Cactus Jack"
Collaborations and watches inspired by pop and street culture are, without a doubt, an important part of Audemars Piguet‘s recent history. No other brand on the haute horlogerie scene has fostered such creative synergies with different universes. Sport, pop culture, art, fashion and entertainment… It looks at things from a different perspective, like it or not. This year, Audemars Piguet unveils a new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked limited edition in collaboration with brand and label Cactus Jack, founded by American hip-hop artist Travis Scott. And yes, it is indeed “The Chocolate AP,” as Travis Scott likes to call it in his latest album. Yet another polarizing collaboration with a slightly controversial artist, but one that truly looks spectacular.?AP x CollabsAs most of you might know, this new model isn’t the first time the Swiss watchmaker ventured into the world of music and sport, and specifically hip-hop and basketball culture. Far from th
Buying Guide - 5 Watches That Do Green In A Different Way
When it comes to colours, there are several must-haves in a collection if you are to be taken seriously as a watch manufacturer. Traditional colours like black, silver and white for dials have been around for ages and will never go out of style. Another here-to-stay colour, although slightly newer in watchmaking, is blue. The watch industry is receptive to trends, though, as in recent years, we've seen periods of yellow or brown flourish momentarily. The latest trend that seems a bit more tenacious is yes, you've guessed it: green!Today we're not going to look at watches that just have a green dial for the sake of having a green dial. No, we want to dive a little deeper and separate the wheat from the chaff. Which watches do green differently, break from conformity or produce a world-first perhaps? Here are five watches we feel are worthy of your time and attention, with an alternative take on going green.Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin PlatinumFirst up is a watch that nobod
Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier Launches Its Integrated, High-Frequency, Column-Wheel Chronograph - Monochrome Watches
For once, this won’t a product-related news – understand here, the launch of a new watch – that we will share with you. Instead, we’ll look at the other side of the industry: suppliers. Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, one of the most respected movement constructors of the Swiss industry, indeed unveils an integrated high-frequency column-wheel chronograph, the calibre Seed VMF 6710. And it truly is quite an interesting movement, to say the least. The chronograph is, without doubt, one of the most popular complications. It's also one of the complications that can be used on a daily basis, however, what most people do not realize, is that it is among the most complex mechanisms to design and manufacture.?Chronograph?movements are rare birds. Very few brands manufacture chronographs, and there are few?existing calibres available on the market.?So when we learned that Vaucher Manufacture was presenting a new chronograph, it caught our attention. The calibre 6710 is not
Introducing The Norqain Freedom 60 Chrono 40mm Ice Blue Limited Edition
We've looked at Norqain many times since its 2018 founding as the Swiss watches are both well thought and aesthetically pleasing, especially for such a young brand. It's no surprise as part of the team behind Norqain came from Breitling, including founder Ben Kuffer. The Freedom 60 Chrono was an early success with a bold 43mm case, but a more universal 40mm Chrono launched last year and has been a highlight of the brand. Norqain is now releasing a limited edition of the 40mm chronograph with an ice blue dial that should please fans of the prior models.?The stainless steel case hasn't changed, but there was no reason to modify this more compact Freedom 60 Chrono, a relatively new and best-selling design. As the name implies, it's 40mm in diameter with a height of 14.9mm (lug-to-lug is 49.2mm). A box-type AR sapphire crystal protects the dial and provides retro distortions at angles, while a sapphire exhibition case back displays the Sellita-based automatic. The case is polished with som
Introducing the AkriviA Heure Minute Tourbillon Stainless Steel with hand-made dial - Monochrome-Watches
It’s not often that we see a brand coming to the market with their first watch that comprises both a tourbillon and a monopusher chronograph, with a fully hand-finished in-house movement – but it’s exactly what AkriviA did with this watch. Because it’s seems difficult?to develop?an even more complicated watch (especially for a small and young brand), Akrivia is now coming with a simpler watch. Well, simple but still quite a watch, as we’re talking about the?AkriviA Heure Minute Tourbillon.Brief?reminder about Akrivia:“(Akrivia) was founded in 2011 by Rexhep Rexhepi, a young master watchmaker with an interesting educational background which includes an apprenticeship at Patek Philippe at the age of 14, and working as movement developer for BNB Concepts (which went bust in 2010, then was partially bought by Hublot, resulting in the Hublot Cle du Temp).” The first watch to be revealed by AkriviA was an impressive one that we covered last year, aft
