The return of the historic A. Lange & Sohne Centennial Tourbillon
A. Lange & Sohne is renowned as one of the most distinguished watchmakers from Saxony on the market today, but life hasn’t always been smooth sailing. As a witness and victim of the vicissitudes of German history over the past two centuries, the destiny of the brand has come full circle. From its foundation in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolf Lange in Glashutte to its destruction during WWII, and from its expropriation after the war to its miraculous resurrection after Germany’s reunification in 1990 by the founder’s great-grandson, A. Lange & Sohne has taken a circuitous path but is now safely home. Today, A. Lange & Sohne is celebrating another return, this time marked by the return of a valuable pocket watch that was lost in the turmoil following WWII to its rightful place in the Museum Bautzen.Known as the “Centennial Tourbillon”, this exquisite gold pocket watch with a miniature enamel painting of the goddess Minerva was one of only a few tourbillo
Pre SIHH 2015: Three new models of the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia collection - Monochrome Watches
Today we’re introducing three new A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia models that will be officially launched during the upcoming SIHH in January 2015. Technically all three watches will remain the same, however in terms of aesthetics and/or size the Saxonia, the Saxonia Automatic and the Saxonia Dual Time will be updated. Small, but interesting and quite notable changes. The Saxonia line represents the “entry” level of the high-end watch manufacture from Saxony, Germany. Two of the models, the Saxonia and the Saxonia Dual Time, will be reduced in size. Yes, you read that correct! Every time that a watch brand decides to reduce size instead of increasing, we here at Monochrome applaud that kind of bravery. That’s just one of the reasons why we’re so taken by the 38.5 mm measuring Lange 1 that has remained unchanged in size for the last 20 years, and has not been subject to the big, bigger, biggest hype that went on in the watch industry in that past decade.A. Lang

David Candaux, an independent watchmaker and member of the Academie Horlogere des Createurs Independants (AHCI) since 2019, is regarded as one of the most talented creators in contemporary horology. During that time, he met with Gunter Blumlein, then a towering influence in the watchmaking world back then, and Henry-John Belmont, then CEO of Jaege

Unique FP Journe Tourbillon Souverain Bleu in tantalum for Only Watch 2015 - Monochrome-Watches
Amongst the 43 unique watches that Only Watch 2015 will auction, we’ve already seen quite a few interesting ones (yes, that’s an understatement…). Whether it’s the superb Laurent Ferrier Sector Dial, the Voutilainen GMT-6 or the future record-breaker Patek Philippe 5016A, all the watches we’ve seen so far are stunning and highly desirable (meaning possible huge prices reached). Another brand just announced its participation and, again, it’s a stunner.
