Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Flyback Chronograph 26622TI
Audemars Piguet's latest Royal Oak Offshore is the standard-bearer of a new generation of ROO models. Although the medley of a tourbillon and chronograph complication is not new to the ROO family, the case has been redesigned in a new 43mm size, and the movement is a contemporary, edgier adaptation of a calibre introduced on board the recent Code 11.59 collection. Limited to 100 pieces, the new Royal Oak Offshore comes with the brand's interchangeable strap system for more versatility.Icons pose a problem for watch companies lucky enough to possess one. Do you stick to the winning formula ad infinitum, or do you stretch the concept in new directions? Audemars Piguet's iconic Royal Oak watch of 1972, the precursor of the luxury sports watch genre, is still one of the world's most coveted watches. In 1993, AP decided to push the bold personality of the Royal Oak into more contemporary terrain with the Royal Oak Offshore. Still displaying the essential family traits of the RO, the ROO was
Introducing the Blancpain Villeret Chronographe Pulsometre - Monochrome Watches
At the Baselworld watch fair, earlier this year, Blancpain introduced an new in-house chronograph movement, with a fly-back function and a silicon balance spring that vibrates at a high frequency of 5Hz or 36,000 vph. After introducing it in the Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback, Blancpain’s new in-house calibre F385 is now available in the classic looking Blancpain Villeret Chronographe Pulsometre. Despite its classic looks, Blancpain’s Villeret Chronographe Pulsometre comes in a rather large 43.6 mm red gold case. Its?cambered white Grand Feu enamel dial is surrounded by a pulsometer scale and features?enamel-painted Roman numerals, except at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. The brand’s name and logo appear on the upper half of the dial, while the lower half features the date window and the connotation “Flyback”. Left and right of the centre are the chronograph 30-minute and 12-hour counters. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
First Look: The Even More Complex MB&F LM Sequential Flyback
The aphorism “if it ain't broke, don't fix it” is not often used by watchmaker Stephen McDonnell, the mastermind behind MB&F's most complex timepieces enhanced with his innovative technological breakthroughs. Responsible for the 2015 LM Perpetual and the LM Sequential EVO, fans of MB&F's wonderful watches will be delighted to learn that Stephen McDonnell is back. This time, McDonnell ups the functionality of his award-winning chronograph calibre by incorporating a flyback function. However, for this new souped-up edition of 33 pieces, MB&F restages the complications in a more classical Legacy Machine capsule. Soaring in a platinum case with a sky-blue dial plate, the LM Sequential Flyback is the stuff watchmaking dreams are made of.The LM Sequential EVO, released in 2022, was MB&F's first chronograph and 20th calibre, and in true MB&F style, it had to be mind-blowing. Calling on a longstanding MB&F friend and watchmaking wizard, Stephen McDonnell, th
Independent Watchmaking - A closer look at Winnerl
Winnerl might be a newcomer but this independent brand bears a historical name, that of a 19th-century Austrian horologist, recently revived by an Austrian watchmaker, Bernhard Zwinz. After having worked for some of the greatest brands and with some of the most respected watchmakers, Zwinz now manufactures watches in his own workshop, inspired by the Winnerl legacy. We had the opportunity to visit him in the Vallee de Joux, to take a closer look at his superbly handcrafted watches.Joseph Thaddeus Winnerl (1799-1886) was an eminent Austrian-born and later Paris-based watchmaker. He is known for his superior chronometers – with a broad array of applications, from the observation of celestial bodies to precise ship's chronometers – and for his work on the creation of different split-second chronograph mechanisms.?
