TAG HEUER introduces its New In-house Movement, Calibre 1969 - Monochrome Watches
Heuer had a great history in chronographs, especially with the Calibre 11, and seems to be moving towards a great future. After the presentation in 2009 of its first in-house movement since decades, the calibre 1887, TAG Heuer comes back with a very interesting offer in the market of in-house, self-winding chronograph movements. After all the debates around the calibre 11, and after the discussions about the calibre 1887 and whether or not it is a proper in-house movement, this 1969 could be the one to bring everyone into agreement. Let's see why.?We here at Monochrome are big chronograph enthusiasts, whether vintage or modern, like the Omega Speedmaster for its historical importance, or the Lange & Sohne Double Split for its perfection (we reviewed it for you here). The announcement a few days ago by TAG Heuer of a new movement had, of course, attracted our curiosity. And let's be clear about it; we’re looking at an impressive engine compared to TAG's previous standards. But
Oris Chronoris Williams 40th Anniversary Limited Edition - Review (Specs & Price)
I always have a little bit of a tough time stomaching car, football club or otherwise branded Limited Edition or commemorative timepieces. Some try way too hard to get across what they are, other than a standard series watch with often little more than a few details that have nothing to do with watchmaking. Don't get me wrong, there are examples that come out just right in my book, and yes it is of course highly personal, as is everything when it comes to preferences. One of those watches that seems to hit the proverbial nail on the head for me is the recently introduced Oris Chronoris Williams 40th Anniversary Limited Edition.Like we explained in the Watches & Formula 1 series, the connection between watches and cars is a strong one, dating back to the earliest times of the sport where timekeeping was in its infancy. Over the years the technology progressed, and eventually, watches became obsolete when it came to tracking elapsed time in an official motor racing event. But that do
IWC Big Pilot Constant Force Tourbillon AMG One Owners IW590502
About a week ago, Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division released its most advanced, crazily complex, powerful hypercar ever. We’ve often heard of the concept of “race car for the road” or brands applying F1 technology to sports cars. That concept has never been pushed as far as the new Mercedes-AMG One, which is powered by almost the same engine as Lewis’ F1 car, the hybrid 1.6-litre turbo V6 used in the 2016 Mercedes F1 W07… And the car will be built in the UK, in the same facilities as current MB F1 cars. So, when it comes to car-watch pairing and aware of the partnership between IWC and AMG, which watch can you possibly offer to the owners of this USD 2 million car? You certainly cannot go for a simple time-only. So, you create the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition AMG One Owners IW590502.?In short, this Mercedes-AMG One is probably the most advanced and most F1-derived road car ever imagined. The engine… straight out of a
Value Proposition Martenero Kerrison Automatic (Specs & Price)
While a growing number of microbrands are producing well designed, high-quality watches that are nipping at the heels of brands like Hamilton, Tissot and Seiko, they don't have the marketing or mass production prowess of those established brands. Some of the watches themselves, however, are bonafide contenders. Martenero is a young microbrand based in New York that already has a handful of intriguing lines in its portfolio. It recently funded a sequel to one of its bestsellers on Kickstarter, the Edgemere Reserve. It follows the original Edgemere and adds three complications, a 24-hour sub-dial, date and reserve indicator (the original Edgemere was a time-only piece). One of my favourite Martenero lines is the Kerrison, which is clean and conservative, but also full of personality. They remind me of the Three Hand Automatics?from another young microbrand, Farer Universal. Both use splashes of colour to add a little fun to otherwise subdued (yet stylish) dials. Let's take a closer look
Hands-On - The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver
TAG Heuer is adding a new flavour to the Aquaracer Professional 300 collection with a vibrant orange dial. Just like the latest models introduced last year, the watch was inspired by the reference 844 diver (with an orange dial in this case). The new design in 2021 was more refined than its predecessors, bringing a luxury tool watch for all occasions. The original reference 844 Orange Diver with a tangerine dial was introduced soon after the series launched in 1978 and has since been very popular with collectors. Vibrant orange is nothing new for TAG Heuer divers, but it's a desirable addition to this revamped series.?The stainless steel case is brushed and polished with a 43mm diameter. The 12-sided unidirectional rotating bezel has a black ceramic insert with contrasting white 60-minute Arabic numerals/marks and a detailed 15-minute scale. The triangular marker has Super-LumiNova with a blue glow. The signed crown screws down and is partially guarded by integrated case extensions, an
