H. Moser & Cie Removes "Swiss Made" From Its Watches
As of?the 1st of January 2017, the requirements of?the “Swiss Made” label will change, with the idea being to further?strengthen the?label?and ultimately provide?the end consumer with a more ‘Swiss’ product overall. Specifically, from January 2017, at least 60% of the value of the components within?a “Swiss Made” watch?will have to be?of Swiss origin in order to be considered eligible (as a reminder, the previous rule was that?at least 50% of a watch’s value had to be realized in Switzerland). Arguably these changes are a step in the right direction however?they are still?not enough for one?manufacture named H. Moser & Cie. The brand has decided, for various reasons which?we’ll explain, that it can no longer accord with these rules?and has therefore decided to forgo the Swiss Made label altogether on its watches. At the same time they have announced the?unveiling of the most Swiss watch ever created; produced in Switzerland, by Swiss
Review Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 40mm White Gold
The Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921, a unique cushion-shaped model with a diagonal display, celebrates its centennial in 2021. One of our favourite models at MONOCHROME, the Historiques American 1921 has a great story behind it and has not lost an iota of its idiosyncratic personality in the past 100 years. Three new iterations of the American 1921 were unveiled during the latest edition of Watches & Wonders – two in 18k white gold and a third in platinum. Today we'll be taking our loupe to the 40mm white gold edition and discover its indisputable and enduring Art Deco appeal. The exhilarating 1920sThe aftermath of WWI heralded a decade of optimism and excess known as the Roaring Twenties. Characterised as a decade of emancipation with flappers dancing the Charleston and jazz music bursting on the scene, it also marked the advent of Art Deco, a style that graced everything from skyscrapers to furniture and from jewellery to watches. Buying Guide - A selection of diving chronographs
A diving watch is generally considered to be very robust, has some form of rotating inner or outer bezel, is water-resistant to at least 200 meters and provides excellent legibility. But what if you’re looking for a bit more than just the time and possibly the date? What if you want to time the boiling of an egg, or maybe go a bit nuts, and time your underwater adventure from start to finish? Well, you’re in luck today as we take a closer look at some of last year’s newly presented diving chronographs! And we go from affordable to expensive and from stainless steel to titanium and bronze. Let’s dive straight in!Glashutte Original SeaQ ChronographThe SeaQ was Glashutte Original’s first crack at a modernly constructed dive watch, modelled after the Spezimatic RP TS 200 from 1969 (back then, GO was known as Glashutter Uhrenbetried GmbH or GUB). Despite the modern build, the SeaQ range has a rather tasty vintage look to it, unsurprising considering its inspira
Airain Type 20 Re-Edition Brown Limited Edition - Hands-On, Price
If you’ve been reading MONOCHROME for some time now, you might be aware of something about me; I have a long-lasting love affair with the Type XX and Type 20 watches. It is something I’ve shared over the years on many occasions since the Breguet Type XX is the watch that really started my journey as a collector. So when we received the news, about a year ago, that Airain – one of the original providers of Type 20 watches to the French army – was about to resurface, you can imagine that I was pretty excited. And when we saw the first images of the watch that was about to be launched, the excitement became even stronger. But today, we have a prototype of the Airain Type 20 Re-Edition with us, a brown dial limited edition version, to be precise. And it’s time for a good old hands-on session.?The Type 20 watches and AirainIt is no secret that pilots have been some of the most demanding users of watches in history. Since the conquest of the air, watches have be
