The Best of Indie Watchmaking Seen Through the Casebacks Part 2
Following Part 1 of this journey through the fascinating world of independent watchmaking, which we published last week, we continue today with the second part of this collection of superb watches… Instead of looking at the watches in the conventional way from the dial side, we’re looking at them from the reverse side.? And seeing what these independent, creative watchmakers are capable of when it comes to movement construction and decoration, we have to admit that in many cases, the view is even sexier. The selection below is a composed of small' independent watchmakers without mentioning larger brands such as Patek Philippe, A. Lange & Sohne or Audemars Piguet. Naturally, this isn't an exhaustive list, so do not hesitate to mention your favourite craftsmen or watches in the comment section below!Haldimann H11An?absence?of the?unnecessary and a focus on the essential That's what Beat Haldimann has been striving for with the timepieces that he crafts by hand. Plus a high
Breitling Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 3-hand (Specs & Price)
Georges Kern has been busy dusting off cobwebs and streamlining references (from 600 to 120) since he was appointed CEO of Breitling in the summer?of 2017. With large market segments entirely overlooked by the brand's predominant focus on oversized pilot's watches, Kern has altered the flight plan. His mission is one of expansion and he hopes to attract women and lure the Asian market into the Breitling fold. The new 38mm Navitimer 1 three-hander would seem to be a direct response to his strategy and plays the unisex card to great effect. Ideal for men with smaller wrists and women who like watches with a more virile personality, let's take a closer look at the Navitimer 1 Automatic 38.Turbulence or smooth sailing on the horizon for BreitlingFollowing the hullabaloo provoked by the unveiling of the Navitimer 8 Collection – with die-hard fans of the legendary Navitimer chronograph offended by a collection that looks nothing like an original Navitimer - Breitling had a lot of expla
Industry The Geneva Watch Days Returns in August 2021
The global pandemic that hit the world in 2020 has had a massive impact on the watch industry, be it production, sales and obviously, events. Due to the sanitary situation, the two major fairs of the year, Watches & Wonders and Baselworld, had to be cancelled – at least the physical editions – leading the press and retailers to attend only digital presentations. The Geneva Watch Days event was the one notable exception, which took place in August last year. Following the success of the 2020 edition, the founding watch brands are staging the event in Geneva again this year, with the 2021 Geneva Watch Days scheduled from 30th August to 3rd September.?Watches & Wonders 2021 – the major watch fair (and the only fair that survived) – was staged again this year in a digital format. Thankfully there will be a real, partially physical event in August with the return of Geneva Watch Days. Created by a group of brands, on the initiative of Bvlgari's CEO Jean-Chris
Hands-on with the Montblanc Meisterstuck Heritage Pulsograph with Minerva Monopusher Chronograph - Monochrome Watches
Before and during the SIHH 2014, in January of this year, we showed you most of the new Montblanc timepieces. We owe you some good hands-on reports about the new pieces, especially of the Meisterstuck Heritage collection. During the SIHH we sat down with Ben Clymer, founder and executive editor from Hodinkee, to discuss the new Meisterstuck Heritage collection and today we’re going to review his (and our) favourite, the Meisterstuck Heritage Pulsograph. If we have to choose a favourite, it is most definitely the Heritage Pulsograph. Simply because it offers a hand-made, fully hand-finished, absolutely stunning movement, for an extremely competitive price. In that perspective it perfectly fits in the Meisterstuck Heritage collection, as the price level of all timepieces in this collection is almost shockingly competitive. And that’s something that most have surprised not only you and us, but also the competition. One thing became immediately clear, when we handled the new ti
Introducing the Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days Titanio DLC PAM00617 and PAM00629 (specs & price) - Monochrome-Watches
When it comes to Panerai watches, there are a few distinct features that might create the enthusiasm of?Paneristi (Panerai collectors): an iconic dial is a first one. A limited edition is something desirable too. For Watches &?Wonders 2015, both qualities are reunited in 2 new timepieces, with a limited production of 300 pieces each. Here are the?Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days Titanio DLC PAM00617 and PAM00629, with their DLC coated titanium case, superb and iconic dials and a cool overall look. Both watches, ref.?PAM00617 and PAM00629, are based on the same case and design. They are only differentiated by their dials (and a minor change on the movement). These new limited editions are using the?Luminor 1950 case, meaning the vintage inspired shape that refers to the very first watches created by the Officine to feature the patented crown protection device. There's just a slight difference between the?normal Luminor case and the 1950 one - the latter is 100% faithful to the military wa
