SIHH 2015: A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Up/Down now in Pink Gold - Monochrome-Watches
If you ask collectors which is the best ever chronograph, you’ll probably get 2 or 3 recurring answers: Daytona, Omega Speedmaster and A. Lange & Sohne Datograph. For sure, the two first watches are iconic and highly interesting. However,?when it comes to Haute Horlogerie matters and technically advanced movements, the one and only answer remaining is the Datograph. Already available in platinum, the A. Lange and Sohne Datograph Up/Down comes now in a new pink gold edition. We said new… in fact, not completely. If watches are a subject you’re following for some years now, you might be familiar with this watch.?In 2003 Lange and Sohne launched a Datograph?in pink?gold with a black dial. Of course it did not have the technical characteristics of the actual reference, the?Datograph Up/Down. Born in 1999, the Datograph was updated in 2012 with many improvements. Visually first, the Roman numerals have made place for baton hour markers and the case has been enlarged f
Introducing a new IWC Portuguese Automatic Edition BJIFF 2015 with a striking Panda dial - A Future Collectable - Monochrome Watches
Last Friday we told you about the new IWC Ingenieur Automatic Edition Laureus, with a very nice blue dial. Today we can show you yet another limited edition that we just need to tell you about. Why? Well, because of the dial. The new IWC?Portuguese Automatic Edition BJIFF 2015 (which stands for Beijing International Film Festival 2015) has a so-called panda dial and it?looks just so incredibly good. Limited to just 50 pieces, so again one that will become very collectible.First a bit of history. Back in 1996 IWC introduced the Portuguese Rattrapante, which was the first of the (than new) IWC Portuguese Chronograph collection. First to be introduced were a platinum version with a silver/white dial and a white gold version with a black dial and white sub dials. The latter had the so-called inverse panda dial, which later also appeared in the “regular” Portuguese Chronograph in stainless steel. In 2007 IWC introduced a limited edition for the Japanese market, with a proper pan
Patek Philippe 6102P Sky Moon Celestial explained with live photos, specs and price - Monochrome-Watches
Patek Philippe is known for its multiple (infinite) complications: perpetual calendars, split-second chronographs, some of the best minute repeaters ever made (and tested by the CEO himself) or a crazy watch that combines 20 of the complications in a single case, the GrandMaster Chime. However, amongst?the collection of watches manufactured by Patek, a series of timepieces has a special place in the heart of collectors, with a highly poetic display, the Celestials. Here is an overview of a hauntingly?Grand Complication, the?Patek Philippe 6102P Sky Moon Celestial.Don’t expect the?Patek Philippe 6102P Sky Moon to be the most elegant, discreet or practical watch of the collection. That is clearly not its intention. The 6102P Celestial is a large watch (especially when you consider the rest of Patek’s collection), it’s a watch with a questionable utility?and a very unique display but?it’s a watch created for another purpose: having a poetic and oneiric scene on the
Petrolhead Corner - Rolls Royce Returns to Coachbuild with the Boat Tail
The world of super-luxury cars is evolving fast. While a few years ago we had high-end car manufacturers offering bespoke services mostly for interiors and paint jobs, we are seeing a shift towards high-end manufactured coachbuilt cars by mainstream car brands again. Like in the early days of the automobile, more and more brands are now offering full bespoke services. The most recent announcement came from Rolls Royce, which said it would return to the glorious days of coachbuilt cars. To back up that claim, the famous Spirit of Ecstasy presented the Rolls Royce Boat Tail, the most expensive new car you can buy. Oh, and it comes with a bespoke Bovet 1822 watch!Rolls Royce has a long history of fully bespoke or coachbuilt cars. And while you can still pretty much request whatever you like on the interior and exterior in terms of colours or trim, coachbuilt cars are a whole different ballgame. This means one-off or highly limited cars, mostly handmade bodies, to very specific demands of
Baselworld report - Monochrome Watches
Robert-Jan and i are making a report of our trip to Baselworld. The report will be posted at Perpetuelle.com. Take a look at Perpetuelle’s Baselworld 2009 forum.Baselworld 2009 entranceThanx to Kyle @ Perpetuelle.com for the press cards, Robert-Jan for the excellent company. On his website Fratellowatches he just wrote a post of our experience trying to get a closer look at the new TAG Heuer Monaco models, that was quite a disappointment especially for me as a huge fan of the brand and this watch in particular.
