SIHH 2019 Audemars Piguet CODE 11.59 Collection (Live Photos, Specs & Price)
This is the big one for SIHH 2019! Here's an early hands-on article to what will most likely be one of the most discussed watches of the fair – and a crucial event for the brand, CODE 11.59 by Audemars Piguet. Very simply because there has been no product launch of this magnitude over the past 20 years for the brand. Picture this, 13 new references, 6 news models, 3 brand new calibres – including the much awaited in-house integrated chronograph! The ambition: to write a new page in the brand's history, creating a new pillar in the collection next to the Royal Oak, Royal Oak Offshore, Royal Oak Concept and Millenary. Why a new collection?Somehow, nobody had anticipated a launch of these dimensions from Audemars Piguet. The Royal Oak is an established icon and one of the most successful watches today on the market. Some brands just stick to what they do well. Having such a strong product is a unique asset but putting all your eggs in one basket has its risks. Yesterday’s
Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Chronograph SRQ039J1 Blue Dial Hands-On
Seiko expands its Prospex Speedtimer chronograph series with a new blue panda-style dial with contrasting black sub-dials. Introduced in 2021, the Prospex Speedtimer celebrates Seiko's contribution to sports timing with a fusion of design details and mechanical features of stopwatches and wristwatch chronographs produced in the 1960s. The case and dial, for example, pick up on specific design features and the impeccable legibility of Seiko's handheld stopwatches and its manual-winding Crown Chronograph 5179 wristwatch of 1964. Honouring the sophisticated automatic chronograph movement of Seiko's legendary calibre 6139 of 1969, the Prospex Speedtimers are powered by the calibre 8R46 with a vertical clutch and column wheel. Here’s the new Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SRQ039J1.The race against timeAlthough we tend to remember 1969 as the year when America won the space race and landed a man on the Moon, there was another race between Swiss watch manufactures to develop the first automat
Industry News: Louis Ferla Appointed CEO of Cartier, Replaces Cyrille Vigneron
Following the appointment a few weeks ago of Nicolas Bos as the new CEO of the Richemont Group (replacing Jer?me Lambert), the luxury conglomerate once again announces changes in managing positions, with a new CEO for its jewellery/watchmaking brand Cartier. Effective 1st September 2024, Louis Ferla (ex-Vacheron Constantin) will take over Cyrille Vigneron as Chief Executive Officer of Cartier.Cyrille Vigneron, after eight years at the helm of Cartier – which is now reported by Morgan Stanley as the second-largest Swiss watch brand, with a turnover estimated at CHF 3,100 billion and 660,000 units sold in 2023 – has decided to retire and will now assume the position of Chairman of Cartier Culture & Philanthropy and will work to the transition with Ferla. Louis Ferla, who joined Richemont in 2001 at Alfred Dunhill and later joined Cartier in 2006, took over Vacheron Constantin as CEO in 2017 – a brand that is now reported by Morgan Stanley as t
Editorial - Vegan Straps & Eco-Friendly Recycled Materials in Watchmaking
A new trend is simmering in the distance. Or maybe not so far away. Now the Glasgow Climate summit has been concluded with a final declaration that leaves a lot to be desired; perhaps it is time to turn to ourselves as watch collectors to make a difference. We are not asking you to walk to the next Geneva Watch Days, eat vegan ‘Bratwursten’ or only buy Fairmined gold watches, we are just interested to know how you feel about making a small contribution by, let’s say, choosing a non-animal watch strap for your next acquisition. This article has been written by Melinda Braaksma for MONOCHROME.?First, let’s establish the definitions used in this article. Genuine leather is the term used for material made from animal skin, used to create fashion items such as handbags, shoes, belts, watch straps and jackets, but also furniture and car interiors. Whereas it can be argued that leather is a by-product of the dairy and meat industry and that if the leather is not bought

Today, we’re extremely proud to announce that tomorrow, 11 December 2017, our largest video project ever (and we’ve done quite a few – see here) will go live, and it will last for no less than 5 days. It took us some great efforts to gather all these amazing guests, to find the right angle, to define what it would look like, and of course to film it… Here it is, “The Speedmaster Chronicles” will start tomorrow 5:00 PM (Europe Time) – 11:00 AM (New York time) – 12:00 PM (Hong Kong time). In this series of videos, 5 men will shed their light on one of the most iconic watches ever created, you name it: the Omega Speedmaster “Moonwatch”. From the man who gave the official “Flight Qualified by NASA” accreditation, to a fellow watch-journalist who made Tuesday a greater day, to a passionate guy with a collection to die for,?to one of the greatest contemporary auctioneers, to the man who is the current guarantor?of this ic
