Understanding Porsche Design, With the Vintage Titan Chronograph and The Modern Monobloc Actuator - Monochrome Watches
Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was a genius, a visionary. A man not weary of defying odds and venturing into the unknown. Not only is he the driving force behind the legendary Porsche 911 sports car, but he also brought us much, much more. Under the Porsche Design umbrella is a world of luxury items to be found, from travel bags, writing instruments and fashion items to highly technical sports-oriented wristwatches. Brands today are enthusiastically revisiting the watch designs of the 1970s, riding a wave of nostalgia that has struck a chord with consumers. These retro-inspired pieces often feature updated characteristics, adding modern functionality to vintage aesthetics. One notable example of a driver’s watch - designed for checking the time without turning your wrist while gripping a steering wheel - was the Amida Digitrend introduced in 1976, a mechanical piece that was able to compete with Girard-Perregaux’s Casquette and its then advanced quartz LED technology. Despite its initial success, Amida was unable to escape the fate of many watchmakers of the ti

In the small but fascinating world of watchmaking, some timepieces?deeply influenced the whole industry. The Submariner almost defined what a dive watch should be. The story behind the Speedmaster is still an immense source of fascination. The Royal Oak created his own and so-respected category, the luxury sports watch. In a much more discreet way, Ulysse Nardin, in 2001, introduced a watch that deeply changed the face of modern watchmaking: the Freak, a watch that can be considered as the mother of concept watches and of silicon. Its time for us to review its successor, the?Ulysse Nardin FreakLab.The Ulysse Nardin Freak, a 15 years historyIn a time not that far away, watches were made with metals, entirely with metals. Their escapements and balance springs where made in the most advanced alloys possible, but still, this was metal. Then, before the madness of the 2000s came, watches were small, round, classical – even sports watches were in fact quite understated. Well, in 2001,
