Hands-on with the 2016 edition of the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin, with new face (live pics, specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
This 2016 edition of the SIHH has been very productive for A. Lange & Sohne (again…). We’ve seen the stunning (yes, that’s an understatement) Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon, the poetical and kind of magical Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase Lumen, the very elegant and balanced Saxonia Moon Phase or the highly technical Richard Lange Jumping Seconds. Clearly, the Saxonian Manufacture didn’t disappoint this year. Besides these proper novelties, there was also an update of an existing watch introduced, a watch that may not be the most coveted creation of Lange but one that really has charm and a discrete elegance, the?A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin, which?now features a new face.As said in the introduction, the?A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin isn’t a proper novelty, as the previous edition of this watch was?introduced at the SIHH 2011, as you can see here, in our dedicated article. However, we have to remind now the 2015 edition of the SIHH, where A. Lange &a
Watches and Formula 1 - Episode 6 - McLaren & Richard Mille
McLaren: the winningest (is that a word?) constructor in Formula 1 after Ferrari, the second longest running team in the sport (with a continuous participation since 1966), producer of many memorable cars, host of legendary driver line-ups, and delivering championship contending cars through most of their history. Hitting a dry spell since 2015 though, the team has the resilience to get back on top, although talks of a McLaren-Honda split refuse to go away. As far as their timing partner is concerned though, relations seem much calmer. Richard Mille is a cutting-edge watch manufacturer, using the most advanced technology and exotic materials, and indeed is very similar in many ways to the image of this major F1 team. The story starts with young Bruce McLaren, born in New Zealand, racing a restored and prepared Austin Ulster 7 in an unofficial hill climb in 1952. Despite being only 12 years old, he showed a talent for racing, and only two years later he entered hi

Introducing TAG Heuer Autavia 60th Anniversary Flyback Chronograph and GMT
The Autavia is an important collection for TAG Heuer. The watch, the first designed and launched under the leadership of Jack Heuer in 1962, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The name, a portmanteau of automobile and aviation, makes no doubt on the vocation of the watch, an instrument to time events and races. As such, the chronograph has always been part of the collection’s DNA. Yet, when the name was revived in 2019 with the new collection, this complication was missing and the watch was only offered in time-and-date editions. But since 2022 marks 60 years of Autavia, the brand has decided to correct things and presents a collection of 3 new models, with the new TAG Heuer Autavia 60th Anniversary Flyback Chronograph and GMT 3 Hands.Quick reminder. The name Autavia first appeared during the 1930s – in 1933 to be precise – on dashboard instruments made by Heuer. The name was born from the contraction of AUTomobile and AVIAtion. It would later be associate
Buying Guide: 6 More Budget-Friendly Geneva Watch Days Novelties
Last week’s selection of novelties from Geneva Watch Days were our personal picks from everything new we’ve seen during our stay in the Swiss capital. Looking back at the list, we stand by our choices, but one thing stood out: all but one watch cost tens of thousands of euros, if not more. While that’s all fine, of course, it’s far from attainable for the average watch enthusiast or collector. Not all of us have the means to purchase a hand-finished tourbillon watch set in rose gold with a sticker price of CHF 155,000. So, with that in mind and plenty more watches on show during this year’s Geneva Watch Days, let’s tone things down to a more sensible level and go shopping for a new watch below EUR 5,000 instead!Doxa 300T AristeraWith the introduction of the 300-piece limited edition SUB 300T Aristera, Doxa caters to left-handed people by putting the crown at 9 o’clock instead of the traditional 3 o’clock position.
