In-Depth: The History of the Almost Century-Old Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso
Today, there is only one Reverso, with Jaeger-LeCoultre printed on its dial, but this was not always the case. During the 1930s, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Cartier made watches that used the Reverso case for their timepieces. Moreover, the 1931 Reverso was not the first reversible case design. A few years earlier, Universal Geneve was already offering its Le Cabriolet model – a wristwatch in a rectangular case that rested in a frame with a screw at 6 o’clock, which allowed to pop out the inner container, rotate and then snap it back into place. I’ve also encountered mention of one Louis van Bemmel, a citizen of Holland residing at Maastricht in the Kingdom of Holland, as an even earlier inventor of a reversible clock. However, a quick search revealed no patent info still, it seems the idea of such casing for the watch was in the air, and a few people without knowledge of each other’s work created their versions.? Buying Guide - 5 Superb Watches with Trendy Salmon Dials
Salmon dial watches truly stand apart. These are unusual, unconventional and classic at the same time. High-end watches rarely venture beyond white, silver, black or blue. But salmon dials are superbly stylish, specifically if you are confident in your ability to carry off colours. Often reserved to limited or special editions, they add a degree of elegance with a twist while remaining understated. The salmon dial trend has been brewing for years but it has really picked up momentum over the past few months. Here are five of the most recent examples.Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Salmon DialIt isn't the first Extra-Thin RO Jumbo with a salmon dial (remember the Jubilee 14802St model) but it is the first time that a pink gold-toned petite tapisserie dial is matched with an 18k white gold case and bracelet. The watch is still 39mm in diameter and just 8mm thick. It houses the self-winding extra-thin 2121 calibre. This subtle and elegant take on the Jumbo is boutique exclusive
New Editions of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute
The Laureato luxury sports watch was introduced by Girard-Perregaux in 1975 and tentatively revived in 2016 as a limited edition before becoming a full-fledged collection in 2017. Within the Laureato family is the burlier, sportier Laureato Absolute sub-collection, the brand's playground for innovative materials and bolder 44mm cases. The two new models joining the Laureato Absolute line-up are housed in transparent metallised sapphire crystal cases to reveal their skeletonised in-house movements. One of the models is picked out in a red translucent case to mark the upcoming Chinese New Year (22 January 2023).LaureatoThe Laureato is Girard-Perregaux’s take on the luxury sports watch and made its first appearance in 1975, just three years after Audemars Piguet launched the groundbreaking Royal Oak. With its raised octagonal bezel, sleek lines, hobnail engraved dial and integrated bracelet, the only downside of the first Laureato was that it was powered by a slim, ultra-precise qua
@winewhiskywatches and his MB&F Legacy Machine No.1 - Monochrome Watches
I can remember clearly when MB&F’s Max Busser showed me the Legacy Machine 1 for the first time. It is simply one of those watches that immediately makes an everlasting impression. Mind you, this was a few years ago when such technicalities were simply absent from other brands, small or big. It was revolutionary and groundbreaking and paved the way for others. One of the collectors who already appeared in our Collector’s Series goes under the IG handle @winewhiskywatches and today we’re talking about his magnificent MB&F Legacy Machine 1 in white gold.?@winewhiskeywatches already talked about his Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance and the IWC Big Pilot Tribute to 5002 and he talks about his watches with a lot of knowledge and passion. As a seasoned collector, he knows what he wants and, at least as important, why he wants it. This is the way that some of the most esteemed collectors operate and it doesn’t matter whether you can purchase an MB&F or
Only Watch 2015 - Unique Vulcain 50s President Cloisonne Grand Feu 'Only Watch Pegasus' - Monochrome-Watches
Not only the large and very sought after brands (like Patek Philippe or Richard Mille) are participating to Only Watch 2015 but also some classy and understated brands, like for instance the latest introduction we covered: the?Speake-Marin Resilience. Another brand, that even if not the most coveted one should really be regarded as full of interest, is now coming with its own unique iteration for Only Watch 2015, a piece that has a strong technical content not only because of its manufacture movement but also because of the amount?of patience spent to create a unique and superb dial. Here is the unique Vulcain 50s President Cloisonne Grand Feu ‘Only Watch Pegasus’.Vulcan gained its notoriety (a notoriety that only the real aficionados are aware of, making the brand quite exclusive) by being the first manufacture to create alarm wristwatches, also known as cricket-watches. These timepieces feature an alarm based on a mechanical device that is able to create a sound loud enou
