SIHH 2017 - Baume & Mercier Clifton Club - Review (Specs & Price)
The SIHH 2017 has seen the debuts of an?entirely?new collection for Baume & Mercier, the Clifton Club, exploring new territories for the brand: sports watches. Indeed, this universe is at first rather far away from what the brand used to do for the last decade. Still, this Clifton Club is an interesting novelty. No marketing artifices?about heritage, vintage-inspiration or an obscure past collection. This watch is just what it looks like; a nicely executed, well-designed, well-positioned (price and style) watch that makes us think it might be a?relevant reaction to the actual market. Overview.Baume & Mercier, to the exception of a few confidential collections (such as Cobra watches), has never been intensively active in the field of sports watches. The positioning of the brand is different, yet clearly defined. Baume & Mercier are “celebration watches“, gifts made to mark achievements in life, such as first successes, graduation, first employment or festive seas
Norqain Freedom 60 Chronograph 40mm (Specs & Price)
Norqain is a new Swiss watchmaker of only a few years, but the team has a lot of industry experience. Founder Ben Kuffer worked at Breitling before launching the brand in 2018, while the son of former Breitling CEO Ted Schneider is also part of the team. Ben's father owned a Swiss private label watch manufacturer, Roventa-Henex SA. This small, family-owned brand has some serious muscle behind it, which has already resulted in a partnership with movement manufacturer Kenissi. The latest watch is a smaller version of the impressive Freedom 60 Chronograph, and it brings new dials and straps.?The original 43mm chronograph was surprisingly mature from such a new watchmaker, but the size was a bit at odds with the vintage-inspired design. That changes for 2022 as the stainless steel case is now 40mm in diameter and 14.9mm in height (49.2mm lug-to-lug), which is closer to the intended 1960s look. It lives alongside the 43mm variant, so you can still choose that contemporary size. The case is
Introducing: Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono With Maritime Blue Dial
Presented in 2019 in time-and-date and time-only models, the Alpine Eagle collection was Chopard‘s take on the highly successful luxury sports watch with integrated bracelet category. Revamping a 1980 design, that of the St. Moritz watch, it has then been offered in a variety of editions, from compact ladies’ models to a highly desirable ultra-thin salmon watch or a bold and oversized chronograph sub-collection. The latter welcomes a new member, a watch exclusive to the brand’s boutique, with an unprecedented and surprising colour. Here’s the Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono With Maritime Blue Dial.Chopard's take on the luxury sports watch occurred long before the appearance of the Alpine Eagle. Designed by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele in 1980, Chopard's first luxury sports watch was the St. Moritz.? A successful model that captured the over-the-top bling of the 1980s, complete with a very elaborate-shaped bezel with eight screws, the St. Moritz was eventually discont
Eric Clapton's Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph ref.2499 - Monochrome Watches
From time to time, there are articles written about our favorite topic, articles that are truly great and a must read. Ben Clymer, executive editor from Hodinkee, just wrote such an article. An article that shares great knowledge, interesting facts and passion all in one story.?This story is about the only platinum Patek Philippe ref. 2499, a perpetual calendar chronograph, that is in private hands. In the hands of nobody less that Eric Clapton, who is single-(slow)-handedly responsible for me starting to play guitar. By now most of my friends have forgiven him, so I’d like to highlight another passion we have in common… watches and in this case a particular watch he offers for sale at the upcoming Christies auction in Geneva. Ad - Scroll to continue with article On Monday November 12, Christies will be auctioning the only platinum Patek Philippe 249
Fratello x Louis Moinet Memoris Spirit 40 Chronograph L.E.
Fratello Watches, our fellow Dutch (in origin at least) watch platform, has once again presented a tantalising limited edition. Partnering with Louis Moinet, the inventor of the chronograph, Fratello chose to mix up the latest chapter in the brand’s long and record-setting lineage of the chronograph watch. From the very first to the very latest, the Memoris is kept alive, thanks to Jean-Marie Schaller, founder and owner of present-day Louis Moinet. With a subtle Dutch twist as the outcome, both teams worked together on a 25-piece run of watches called the Fratello x Louis Moinet Memoris Spirit 40 Chronograph Limited Edition.Louis Moinet is credited with the creation of the first-ever mechanical chronograph and high-frequency stopwatch in 1816. It has been verified by the Guinness World Records association and, to this day, serves as inspiration for Louis Moinet. The spirit of the historic monopusher chronograph is visible in the Memoris and Memoris Spirit collections, with a larg
