Introducing The Function-Packed Ollech & Wajs OW Astrochron
The Ollech & Wajs 1967 Astrochron was one of the first chronographs suited for professional divers thanks to its 200m water-resistant case. Equipped with a Valjoux 72 movement, a movement it shared with models like the original Daytona, the Astrochron has been selected by Ollech & Wajs for a remake this year. While the Astrochron borrows some design cues from its 1967 ancestor and is powered by a descendant of the historic Valjoux 72, it is equipped with a host of functions to keep you covered in just about any terrain. With double the depth rating of the original and fitted with a regatta countdown timer and a 360-degree rotating compass bezel, the Astrochron chronograph is a mighty robust and function-packed action watch.Brief bioOllech & Wajs was founded in 1956 by Albert Wajs and Joseph Ollech in Zurich and started life retailing watches from Omega and Breitling. The business expanded to specialise in the assembly of movements from ETA, Dubois Depraz and Valjoux insid
Introducing Chopard Alpine Eagle Sunburnt in Support of the Aboriginal Corporation
Introduced to the luxury sports watch scene in 2019, the Alpine Eagle draws inspiration from the original 1980s Chopard St. Moritz, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s inaugural watch creation. Since its debut, the Alpine Eagle has become an essential collection, offering authentic, contemporary, and highly compelling timepieces. For the new and distinctive Alpine Eagle Sunburnt, Chopard partnered with tattooist, punk musician and Indigenous artist Shaun Daniel Allen (Shal). A portion of the profits from this collaboration will support the programs of the Ngunya Jarjum Aboriginal Corporation in Australia. The Chopard Alpine Eagle Sunburst case measures 41mm wide and 9.7 mm thick, in line with models from the permanent collection, looking elegant and comfortable on the wrist, with the broad chamfered bezel and eight distinctive screw heads all aligned. The case is made of Chopard’s Lucent Steel alloy, which is more scratch and abrasion-resistant than traditiona
SIHH 2015: IWC Portuguese Annual Calendar ref. 5035 - hands-on with live photos, specs and price - Monochrome-Watches
For the 75th anniversary of its emblematic model, the Portuguese (or Portugaise in French /Portugieser in German), IWC chose not to totally renew the collection but instead to improve some of the (visual and technical) aspects and to add some interesting complications. The star of the show this year was the?IWC Portuguese Annual Calendar ref. 5035, that keeps the original feeling of the Portuguese but improves it more than you can really see.One of the main and recurrent reproaches made to IWC is its lack of continuity within the collections. Collectors do not really have to time to get used to a design and then?IWC totally renews its icons with a brand new look. It was the case with the Aquatimer last year. Not that this new collection is not a good one, but it didn’t keep the original feeling of the very first Aquatimers. It was also the case for the Ingenieur collection in 2013. INow it seems that IWC listened to its?collectors (and us at the same time). For the 2015 edition o
