Weekly Watch Photo - A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk Handwerkskunst - Monochrome Watches
Some weeks ago A. Lange & Sohne unveiled what in my eyes is the most beautiful timepiece in the current collection. It’s a special limited edition?of the Zeitwerk ‘Handwerkskunst’.In my opinion?the Lange Zeitwerk, that was released?late 2009,?is one of the most desirable timepieces available on the market today.? This new version with a hand frosted black-rhodium white gold dial, somehow perfected the looks of the Zeitwerk even more. Ad - Scroll to continue with article The white gold dial has been black rhodium finished, something rare as usually rhodium finish is used to make metals (mostly white gold) look more shiny and white. The frosting is also something very rare and can only be found on a hand-full of watches. I know Peter Speake-Marin did several commissioned pieces with a hand-frosted dial, Kari Voutilainen’s Minute Repeate
Celebrating 100 Years Of The Iconic Cartier Tank - Part 2, The Important Early Models - Monochrome Watches
Last week, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Cartier Tank, we brought you part.1 of our in-depth look at this modern-day icon. Our focus was on the Tank Normale, the very first Tank ever created, which made its debut in 1917 (or 1919, depending on who you ask). This early model would lay the foundation for what has gone on to become one of the most recognisable watch designs ever, leading to numerous variations and of course homages from other brands. It also serves as a testament to the idea that well-executed, simple designs can stand the test of time. A bit of luck and a few celebrity endorsements here and there certainly don't hurt either! What has perhaps been most fascinating about the Tank over the years, however, is its incredible versatility. This was particularly evident in the early Tank models, i.e. those made in the 1920's and 1930's, which we will be looking at today. Each is very different in its own way, and yet each is unmistakably a Cartier Tank.A few wor
Hands-On - Omega Constellation Globemaster Annual Calendar 41mm
In our world driven by novelties and social media, it’s sometimes easy to forget things that have been presented only a few years ago. But today, we’ll give a look at a watch that is somehow underrated, a discreet model that, however, encompasses all the savoir-faire of Omega… and more. With its focus on precision, and the addition of one of the most practical types of calendar, the Constellation Globemaster Annual Calendar is full of arguments, but also some polarizing details. So today, we’ll give a look back at this timepiece.?A tribute to early Constellation watchesAs we explained in this in-depth historical article, the Constellation is one of the most enduring collections of Omega. It even came to life before the legendary Speedmaster. While today the name often refers to watches with integrated bracelets and bezel with signature claws, the Constellation started its life with a different objective. The first Omega Constellation, the 1952 “Pie-Pan̶
Hands-on - Richard Mille RM 11-03 Automatic Flyback Chronograph, the facelift of an icon - Monochrome Watches
The Richard Mille RM 011 is a watch that perfectly sums up the Richard Mille spirit. We know this watch for almost?10 years and we’ve seen it in dozens of editions – some linked to certain events (Le Mans Classic), made for special friends of the brand (Felipe Masse, Roberto Mancini…) and manufactured in all possible colors or materials (red quartz, ceramic, carbon fiber, titanium, gold…). This watch could certainly be the most popular RM watch – and is probably the brand’s best seller too. After so many variations, it was time for this icon to get some fresh air, and after a strong facelift, this watch becomes the?Richard Mille RM 11-03 Automatic Flyback Chronograph. What is new in this?Richard Mille RM 11-03 Automatic Flyback Chronograph? Well, without renewing entirely the concept and the style of this watch, we have to admit that almost all the parts (visual or mechanical ones) have been reworked. This facelift is stronger that you might think at
Introducing the White-Dial Airain Type 20 ACE
Founded in 1934, Airain was well known for its Type 20 flyback chronographs in the mid-20th century, supplying the French military along with brands like Breguet and Mathey Tissot. These chronographs could be instantly reset to zero by pressing the 4 o'clock pusher via the flyback function and had specific requirements like a bidirectional 12-hour rotating bezel, 35-hour power reserve (minimum) and lume on both the hands and Arabic numerals. Airain didn't survive the quartz crisis and loss of French military contracts, but was revived in 2020. The Airain Type 20 ACE is the latest chrono model and introduces bold and modern styling from a collaboration with Dutch retailer Ace Jewelers. The stainless steel case is 39.5mm in diameter and 10.85mm in height (without the double-domed sapphire crystal), which is close to the original at approximately 38mm in diameter. There's a bidirectional 12-hour countdown bezel with black numbers and marks, and classic chrono pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock. Th
