Introducing the Arnold & Son Longitude Titanium Sports-Integrated Collection
No brand, it seems, is immune to the allure of the luxury sports watch, sporty-chic watches with integrated bracelets. The latest brand to dip its toe into the highly infested luxury sports watch waters is Arnold & Son, which introduces its first integrated sports watch at Watches and Wonders 2024. Christened the Longitude in honour of John Arnold’s historical marine chronometers, the layout of the first model echoes these historical pieces with its power reserve display at noon and small seconds at 6 o’clock. Not only does the layout evoke the marine chronometers of its famous ancestor, but the new automatic movement is a COSC-certified chronometer. While luxury sports watches have long been the domain of high-end watch brands, – with the Royal Oak, the Nautilus and the Overseas or VC 222, and the Laureato being the main names to come to mind – many high-end independent watchmakers have taken on the challenge – names like Czapek with its Antarctique, L
The Rotonde de Cartier Precious Icon Set
Cartier is a revered manufacturer of haute horlogerie. It is amongst three of the best-selling luxury watch brands in the world, sitting alongside the likes of Omega and . In addition to creating Geneva Seal movements, it has also mastered the art and form of crafting tourbillons and skeletonised watches that expose the high level of skill and craftsmanship behind in-house manufacture. Extending upon the complexity of this watchmaking repertoire is a trio of new mechanical timepieces from the Rotonde de Cartier watch collection that combine two complications – the skeleton and the mysterious. The three mechanisms go by the name of Astromysterieux, Mysterious Astrotourbillon and Skeleton Mysterious Double Tourbillon. The first mysterious movement appeared on a clock named “Model A” in 1912, featuring a transparent dial and two hands that appeared to be magically suspended in mid-air. The concept was originally perfected by one of Cartier's watch
Hands-On: The Downsized 2023 Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph
Chopard has been the official sponsor and timekeeper of Italy's Mille Miglia since 1988, and co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele has participated in every race from 1989, covering over 30,000 competition miles. In fact, this has been the longest partnership in history between a watchmaker and a major motorsports event, and 35 previous watches in the Mille Miglia collection consolidate this link. The latest Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph models were inspired by the event's classic cars with distinctive features on the cases, dials and straps. The watches are also smaller for 2023 and produced in a new, exclusive material.?Unlike prior models, like the 42mm Mille Miglia 2020 Race Edition, the new models have a more compact design at 40.5mm in diameter and 12.88mm in height (slightly thicker than the 2020 model's 12.67mm). It also comes in anti-allergenic, brushed and polished Lucent Steel A223, an exclusive alloy that took four years to develop. It has a luminous appearance (hence th
What Makes The Seiko Prospex Divers "Turtle" and "Samurai" Such Cool Pieces?
When it comes to watches, we can sometimes be a bit posh at MONOCHROME – or, put more elegantly, we can be quite selective and have a soft spot for anything high-end. We love watchmaking in its purest form with complex mechanisms and Haute Horlogerie decoration. We can’t help it. But… We love watches in general and we also genuinely enjoy well-executed accessible watches. And in this field, Seiko with the Prospex collection is certainly among the best contenders. Think “Turtle” and “Samurai”, think “PADI” editions, think cool diver’s watches that retail for less than half a grand. And today I’ll give you my personal view on why all watch enthusiasts, seasoned or new to the game, fortunate or not, should really consider taking a serious look at these two, very cool watches. This article is not intended to be an in-depth review but more of an opinion piece.
