The Collector's Series - @so.frech Grand Seiko Spring Drive SBGA083
For the first time in our Collector’s Series we talk about a Grand Seiko and we do this with Austria-based collector who can be found as @so.frech?on Instagram. Grand used to be JDM (Japan Domestic Market) only and only opened up to customers from outside Japan since 2010. Although it’s not a young brand, for people outside Japan, Grand Seiko remained unknown. By now the brand is pretty well established among its peers and here on MONOCHROME we are always highly enthusiastic when we’re talking about Grand Seiko. And not only because of the?Zaratsu?polishing technique – an ancient method to polished Samurai swords – that results is stupendously good finished cases and hands. We will be talking with @so.frech about his?Grand Seiko Spring Drive SBGA083.?Frank Geelen, MONOCHROME – Grand Seiko is a relatively new brand on the collectors' scene. What is its appeal to you? Recap: The Best GMT and Travel Watches of Watches and Wonders 2025
We, at MONOCHROME, have long been strong advocates of the GMT, Worldtimer and Dual-Time complications. Why? Simply because when rightfully implemented, these additional features make some of the most practical watches possible – and we’re talking real-life practicality here, not an equation of time that no one has ever really understood (sorry, I had to say it…) And I can tell you that we were happy to see that brands during Watches and Wonders 2025 and the Geneva Watch Week came fully loaded, with an array of GMT and Travel watches. Here are some of the best we’ve seen – with one important?exclusion, the Bovet Recital 30 (an absolutely brilliant watch) that we’ll feature in another selection.?Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture SteelLet’s start with the most complex watch on the list (thanks only to the alphabetical order…), which is much more than just its dual-time complication. Nomos Zurich Weltzeit Amsterdam Edition For ACE Jewelers - Hands-On, Price
For the third year in a row, following the very original and arty?Orion “De Stijl” and the sporty Club Campus Amsterdam, Dutch retailer ACE presents a collaboration watch with Glashutte-based watchmaker Nomos. And for the third year in a row, they hit the right note. The already existing Zurich World Timer (Weltzeit in German) was a very good starting point, but this limited edition makes it even better. So, we went hands-on with the new Nomos Zurich Weltzeit Amsterdam Edition For ACE Jewelers… to see what's what! Let me start with straightening one thing out: Amsterdam is not really a big city. I live there, I love living there and it is, in fact, the biggest city in The Netherlands – and it still has unmistakeable town qualities to it. You can cycle everywhere you want, Sundays are slow and despite the huge amount of tourists circling the small streets around the old city centre, you still feel this is a place for easy living, not fast l
