Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral - Reviewing an Understated Masterpiece (Photos, Specs and Price) - Monochrome-Watches
We’ve been reviewing what is arguably the most understated wrist watch. We’re used to explaining high prices to people when they spot something extravagant on our wrist. In this case it was more difficult to explain, until the watch was?turned over to?show?that stunning?movement, featuring a tourbillon with double spiral. While the average watch-person (is that a word?) hardly understands what a tourbillon is, or does, try explaining a tourbillon with two spirals, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. However the Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral holds so much more to?justifiy its price. Ultimate refinement, the epitome of a dress watch, and understated to the max.?My wrist has had the pleasure of wearing… err… testing the most phenomenal timepieces of modern times. Whether it be the outgoing Roger Dubuis Pulsion Skeleton Flying Tourbillon, the quirky Hautlence HL Ti, or the mighty Lange & Sohne Double Split, the classy
Visiting The Red Bull Racing Factory and the TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 01 Red Bull Racing Special Edition (Photos, Specs and Price) - Monochrome Watches
For as long as I can remember, watch brands, and a few in particular, have been involved in Formula 1 motor sport. This is not surprising of course, in the fast-paced world of Formula 1, timing is everything. In recent times, one relationship has proven particularly fruitful: Red Bull Racing and Tag Heuer. Last?month we were invited to visit the Red Bull Racing factory in Milton Keynes, UK to see first-hand how a Formula 1 team operates and learn just how important its timing partner can really be.You don't have to be a watchnerd to know that the automotive and watchmaking worlds are inextricably linked. There are literally examples everywhere. Recent ones that spring to mind include; the Bell & Ross BR03-94 AeroGT Chrono, the Singer Track1 Chronograph and the IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition 50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG.?Back in the seventies there were of course the infamous Heuer watches, the Heuer Carrera, Heuer Monza, Heuer Monaco and Heuer Camaro. And yes, before y
Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 (Specs & Price)
Fifty years ago, on Christmas Eve 1968, Apollo 8 became the first manned spacecraft to orbit the Moon and the three astronauts on board the first men to witness the far, or dark side, of our celestial neighbour. To celebrate this encounter, in 2013 Omega dedicated an entire collection of black-themed Speedmasters known as the Dark Side of the Moon. During Baselworld 2018, Omega presented the latest crew member of this collection, the new Apollo 8. A hybrid of sorts, the Apollo 8 shares the black ceramic case of the Dark Side of the Moon collection but has jettisoned its automatic co-axial engine in favour of Omega's legendary calibre 1861, the manual-wound movement of the classic Moonwatch. With its dramatic skeletonised dial, the bridges and main plate reveal an extraordinary surface designed to recreate the rugged surface of the Moon. Coupled with the vibrant canary-yellow touches on the chronograph indications, for some unconditional Speedy purists, the Apollo 8 has resulted entirely
Interview - Frederic Arnault CEO TAG Heuer On Partnership with Porsche
We've said it repeatedly, but cars and mechanical watches are a natural match. The dedication to precision and fine mechanics, the passion they arouse, and the fact that many car enthusiasts are also watch aficionados (and vice versa) have made collaborations between watch manufactures and car brands a classic cocktail of our industry. But not all partnerships are equal Yesterday, TAG Heuer and Porsche announced their alliance, resulting in the Carrera Porsche Chronograph. And clearly, knowing the shared history of the brands over the last 50 years, this is one of the most natural brand partnerships we've seen recently. In addition to exploring the watch, we've decided to ask the CEO of TAG Heuer, Frederic Arnault, what the alliance with Porsche was all about.Frederic Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer, on the left and Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, on the rightXavier Markl, MONOCHROME – How was the connection between TAG Heuer and
First Look: The New TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport Collection
This year, TAG Heuer is expanding its lineup by introducing a new collection, the Carrera Extreme Sport series with 6 different models, blending the brand’s legendary racing heritage with advanced materials and innovative design. Earlier this year, the brand unveiled the Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 in time for the 24h of Le Mans, paying tribute to the car competing in this iconic endurance race. This watch, a bold and modern interpretation of the racing chronograph, hinted at what would come. The new Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport collection builds on the openworked dial design, reminiscent of the ideas also seen in the Carrera Calibre Heuer 01 from 2015 and is a development of this bold, modular collection. Here's our early hands-on with these new watches, which are presented in various colours and made with high-end materials. The Carrera Chronograph Extreme SportThe TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport is housed in a robust 44mm case, 15.1mm thick, with a water-
