Weiss 42mm Limited American Issue Field Watch with Made-in-USA movement (Specs & Price)
Most watches that really spark my interest have either Swiss or German roots, but on rare occasions, a piece will surface from an unlikely place. I recently reviewed the Classic Enamel PS-801-CE from American watchmaker, RGM (based in Pennsylvania) and I'm always impressed with the company's in-house calibres and old-school craftsmanship. America was once a hotbed for watchmaking with brands like Hamilton, Waltham, Elgin, Ingersoll and Westclox, but acquisitions, bankruptcies and European competition have all but shut down American production. While RGM represents a resurgence of American watchmaking with several in-house calibres, a much younger company in Los Angeles has been producing an in-house movement since 2016. Weiss Watch Company has only existed for a few years and initially relied on Swiss movements for American-made cases, but its in-house Calibre 1003 has made it a bonafide American watch brand. Let's take a closer look at the Weiss 42mm Limited American Issue Field Watch
SIHH 2019 - IWC Pilots Watch Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Edition Le Petit Prince IW392202 (Live Pics, Specs & Price)
This year is all about the pilot watch for IWC. As usual, there is a mix of standard, non-limited models as well as a couple of over the top limited editions. Like this Big Pilot's Watch Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition Le Petit Prince. The watch we're looking at today falls into this latter category, although it perhaps not quite as unorthodox. This is the Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Edition Le Petit Prince. Ad - Scroll to continue with article This new watch is, of course, not the first time that?IWC has combined a perpetual calendar with a chronograph in one of its pilot's watches. This has already existed in the past, yet often with a Valjoux-based movement and Kurt Klaus’ module on top (of course). Here, the base movement is now manufactured in-house – which, again, isn’t a novelty per se, however the QP/Chrono combo with
Industry The Revival Of Daniel Roth in 2023, Thanks to LV
If you’re into independent watchmaking, the name Daniel Roth should immediately speak to you. One of the most sought-after independent watchmakers, and a man who was instrumental in the return of high-end mechanical watchmaking in the 1980s and 1990s (including his work on the resurgence of Breguet), the brand Daniel Roth has known many lives… And some that were perhaps not worthy of the name. But something is about to happen that will bring much joy to collectors: Daniel Roth, one of the defining independent watch brands of the 20th century, is coming back, run as an independent brand, with guidance and incubation from La Fabrique Du Temps Louis Vuitton.?Daniel Roth has been an instrumental figure in the revival of mechanical, high-end, traditional watchmaking in the mid-1970s. He was one of the key players in the resurrection of Breguet, together with the Chaumet Brothers (from 1976 to 1988) and worked on bringing back the classic Breguet style. Together with Lemania, Bre
Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 Blue Dial (Specs & Price)
We often hear that blue is the new black… In recent years, we have seen dozens of watches evolving with the addition of blue dials, yet in sports watches, black is still pretty much the norm. Not for Oris! Just like they did recently with the Artelier Calibre 111, the brand introduces a blue version of its in-house version of the?Big Crown ProPilot, a powerful (to say the least) aviation-inspired watch – which also happens to be one of the brand’s bestsellers in Switzerland (we knew they had some good tastes). On then to the overview! The?Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 was introduced one year after a major step for the brand; the introduction of their first in-house movement in decades (35 years to be precise), the Calibre 110. This number was a reference to various elements of the movement. First, it celebrated the 110th anniversary of the name Oris. A reference to the number “10” was also implied by the length of the power reserve: 10 days. All of th
Five Watches Presented in 2021 Making Full Use of Luminescence - Monochrome Watches
Some watches shine brighter than others; we all know that. And that doesn't necessarily have to be attributed to copious amounts of gems or a superbly polished case. It can also be the result of the amount and application of luminescent material. And this, quite literally, can make a watch shine brighter than any diamond, especially at night! Here's our list of five watches presented in 2021 that put Super-LumiNova to good use!Bovet 1822 Virtuoso VIII Chapter Two ReimaginedIt might be considered an unlikely candidate for a Buying Guide, but Bovet is not a brand that shies away from the unconventional. The independent watchmaker has a history of creating superb, elaborate pieces often mixing traditional crafts with contemporary design and complex movements.
