Hands-On - IWC Big Pilots Watch Perpetual Calendar Steel IW503605
Long the flagship model of IWC's collection of Flieger watches, the Big Pilot's Watch was first paired with the perpetual calendar complication in 2006 as small limited edition runs for two retail partners. Since then, more than 37 versions of this model have been released. Fifteen years after its introduction, the Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar in steel again enters IWC's permanent collection, with the new reference IW503605 and its deep blue dial. The Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar is a striking piece, measuring 46.2 mm in diameter and 15.4mm in thickness. Big is indeed the style here, but far from being an affectation, it is in keeping with the 1940 original, which was oversized due to the pocket watch calibre inside. Legibility was of the utmost import in the original and, even though it is slightly compromised by the perpetual calendar indications, the large dial of the Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar lends itself especially well to the complication. Frederique Constant Yacht Timer Regatta Countdown and Yacht Timer GMT - Monochrome Watches
Affordable luxury has become the byword at Frederique Constant proving that you can have your horological cake and eat it too. Dispelling a lot of snobbery regarding the price of a well-made watch with complications, Frederique Constant demonstrates that you don't have to flog a kidney to enter the complications market. We've recently seen the new and improved FC Perpetual Calendar retailing for under EUR 8,000 and today we will be looking at two new candidates in the rechristened sporty-chic Yacht Timer collection: the Regatta Countdown, a rather niche product designed for sailors, and a more conventional GMT for travellers. The Call of the SeaAs any professional skipper knows, the start of a sailing regatta is a crucial, extremely tense moment. Trying to hold your position on an imaginary start line as you are being buffeted by the wind awaiting the signal flags and horn blasts to indicate the remaining minutes before the start of the race is no easy task. TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 Final Edition CAW211J.FC6476 - Introducing, Specs & Price
Yesterday, we introduced the new standard, modern, classic Monaco watch, now equipped with in-house calibre Heuer 02 replacing the now-discontinued blue-dial Monaco Calibre 12… The end of an era. Is it, really? Well, before permanently turning the page on the Calibre 12, TAG Heuer has a special surprise, with a new limited edition… Meet the TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 Final Edition. As we explained yesterday, there’s a new classic TAG Heuer Monaco in lieu of the Calibre 12 model. To make things clear, TAG is discontinuing one reference only, the more modern, slightly more elegant and more traditional version of the Monaco. This means the blue dial version with a sunray-brushed finish, radial applied indexes and inside the case, an ETA/Sellita modular chronograph movement with the crown classically positioned at 3 o’clock. This model, the reference CAW2111, is now out of the collection. On the other hand, don’t worry about the vintage-inspired Calibre 11 wat
Oliver Ike, the Guy Who Started Ikepod, Revives a Watch Brand Through Kickstarter - Monochrome Watches
Most likely you have heard of the brand Ikepod. It was a joint venture between Oliver Ike and designer Marc Newson, who also designed an Atmos for Jaeger-LeCoultre (a gorgeous blue glass sphere with a perpetual clock inside). Now both aren’t involved in Ikepod anymore and Oliver Ike had some ideas for a new watch: the Canopus Weekplanner. This mechanical wristwatch features a full calender displaying day of the week, date, week number, month and the moon phase and comes in a very ergonomically designed case. The brand that will be producing the timepieces is A. Manzoni & Fils. They produced watches from 1888 until 1978, when it was closed. With the Canopus Weekplanner they hope to relaunch the brand from Lugano. And they are looking for funds through Kickstarter. Just last week we told you about a similar project from Du Bois & Fils that has already found enough funders. This project from A. Manzoni & Fils, Oliver Ike and Finish designer Ilkka Suppanen has just been pu
Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 41.5mm Bi-Colour (Specs, Price)
Oris introduced the in-house calibre 400 automatic in late 2020 that replaced Sellita counterparts in higher-end models and joined the in-house, hand-wound calibre 110 from 2014 (and subsequent variants). Major improvements like an anti-magnetic escapement and five-day power reserve overshadowed the always reliable Sellitas, but prices remained (relatively) accessible for the updated Aquis Date models. The latest Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 duo come with 41.5mm cases and 18k gold bezel edges, and the latter adds some panache to the already stylish series. You also have the choice of two dial colours and either an integrated bracelet or rubber strap, so there's a nice variety on tap as well.? The new collection matches the aesthetic of last year's introduction of the 41.5mm Aquis Date Calibre 400, but gold accents really dress things up. As mentioned, the unidirectional rotating bezel has an 18k gold finish on the outer edge, while the detailed 60-minute diver's s
