Rado has sponsored tennis for over three decades now. Since 1985, the brand has partnered with several tournaments but also with athletes such as Ashleigh Barty. Their latest tennis-themed timepiece is a limited edition created with young British player Cameron Norrie, a member of the Rado Tennis family since 2021. And as you have probably guessed from the start, it is based on one of their star collections, the Captain Cook.Presented during the tennis grass season, this limited-edition Captain Cook comes in a 42mm steel case with a unidirectional bezel fitted with a green polished ceramic insert. It is matched by a domed green-to-white gradient dial. The Rado moving anchor logo is featured on a purple back plate and adds a playful element to the dial. Rado introduced its Captain Cook model to the market in 1962 to satisfy the demand from amateur and professional divers. Keen to conquer the depths, these underwater adventures would have been unfeasible without a proper watch. Production of the Captain Cook was halted in 1968, with the estimated total number of pieces released during six years as low as 8,000. In 2017, perhaps in response to the popular demand for vintage-looking models, Rado announced the vintage re-edition of the 1962 Captain Cook watch, 37mm in diameter, very close to the original, and a larger 45mm version. Since then, quite a few retro and vintage-inspired watches have been launched, including a 42mm Captain Cook Automatic in 2019, followed by? Rado Captain Cook Bronze Collection in 2020.
