Hands-On With The Seiko 5 Sports SKX Series 38mm Collection
A few weeks ago, Seiko announced the introduction of a new size within the classic 5 Sports SKX Series – understand by that dive-inspired models bringing back the flair of the emblematic SKX007 watch. And we were offered a so-called mid-size case, in line with the current downsizing trend. No need to say, we were pretty excited by this new launch. Recently, Seiko has done a great job within its accessible 5 Sports line. So now, we have the 4 editions of the new 38mm SKX series with us and it’s time to find out if it has everything to become a fan’s favourite. ?As said, the brand has been working hard recently to create attractive watches within the Seiko 5 Sports collection. Don’t look at this line as just an entry-level option, it has a lot to offer. Think, for instance, about the great GMT models. Or the attractively compact 36mm Field models. And design-wise, Seiko treats us with oddly satisfying vintage-inspired models, reviving past icons such as the Time S
Oris Big Crown Bronze Pointer Date 40mm Bronze Dial / Introducing, Price
If you’re into watches, the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date should be no stranger to you. In a few years, this watch has become the signature element of the pilot-oriented Big Crown collection, with its nice vintage design and practical function. Still, this apparently simple watch has a lot to tell, as it is far from a new design, and second, it actually helped to make Oris what it is today. After multiple editions in steel or in bronze, Oris presents a new Big Crown Bronze Pointer Date 40mm, with its typically patinated case and now a matching bronze dial. Overview.History of the Big Crown Pointer DateOris has a well-documented history in the world of aviation, having made its first pilot's pocket watch in the early 1910s. This was followed by the company's first pilot's wristwatch in 1917, a watch that?could only?be adjusted when a button above the crown was activated – something featured on the 2017 re-edition. Eventually came the creation of the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date
Introducing the Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 - A new Challenger in the Sky (Price and Specs) - Monochrome Watches
Last year Oris surprised everyone with the launch of their first in-house movement (we reviewed it for you here), which was introduced for the celebration of their 110th anniversary. The caliber’s name on the other hand was anything but a surprise, as they dubbed it calibre 110.?Now Oris has created a new timepiece in the ProPilot collection – yes, that’s the collection with the marvelous ProPilot Altimeter that we tested in its ‘natural environment’ – and they have equipped it?with a new & improved version of the calibre 110 that features a date function. Let’s have a closer look at the new Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111.?The new Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 is actually the very first Oris that comes with the new calibre 111. Of course that makes this an important watch for the brand, and we think that this watch will be off?great interest to collectors as well. However before I go all technical on you, let’s have a quick
Introducing: Hanhart Resuscitates its White Pilot with the 417 ES Moby Dick
Hanhart, the German brand that started life in Switzerland as a manufacturer of stopwatches before relocating to Germany in 1902, gained renown as a producer of Flieger (pilot's) chronographs. In the mid-1950s, Hanhart built the 417, the first pilot's chronograph for the German Armed Forces, with an emphasis on robustness, reliability, and readability. In circulation until 1963, the 417 was retired, allowing Hanhart to focus on stopwatches. But there was another lesser-known Hanhart 417 waiting in the wings, known among collectors as the Moby Dick. Identical in build to the 417 but with a white dial, the Moby Dick was adopted by admirals and doctors in the navy and, given its scarcity, had become a coveted collector's piece. The vintage watch that was used as an inspiration for the new 417 ES Moby DickIn 2020, Hanhart reissued the legendary 417 pilot's chronograph. While the case and dial faithfully respected many traits of its ancestor, the modern version of the Hanhart 417 ES reflecte
Jacob & Co. Astronomia Alec Monopoly (Specs & Price)
As a child of the 1980s, I grew up quite a few years before a little thing called the internet was widely available. Games were plaid off-line rather than online and you'd had to time yourself to watch?your favourite TV show, otherwise, you'd miss it. Growing up I had a few favourite TV cartoons and board games to play. And to my surprise, two of those things have just reared their head in an ultra-complex Jacob & Co in a collaboration with renowned artist and painter Alec Monopoly.?And once again, it is mechanical boldness to the max.Presented as a special collaboration between perhaps the most extravagant independent watchmaker and the famous street artist, the Astronomia Alec Monopoly combines several artistic crafts within the signature Astronomia theme. The four arms of the movement rotate over a sparkling black aventurine base dial, with four unique and handcrafted characters pretty much all of us are familiar with.
