Buying Guide - Best Tourbillon Watches From Baselworld 2018
The tourbillon is often presented as the king of complications. Originally invented to combat the negative effects of Earth’s gravitational pull, it remains today a ubiquitous feature for all high-end brands as a demonstration of watchmakers' capabilities to manufacture such small mechanisms. As for each edition of Baselworld, 2018 has brought its share of new tourbillon watches. We have put together 10 highlights, all endowed with this graceful regulating organ.Andreas Strehler Transaxle TourbillonAndreas Strehler's latest opus houses a highly complex and superbly finished movement. It features a tourbillon combined with a 1-second remontoir, interestingly constructed around the same axle. The remontoir allows the delivery of constant force to the regulator and to drive a dead-beat seconds. The impressive new movement also incorporates a power reserve indication and it is housed in Strehler's signature cushion-shaped case. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Hands-on: Deciphering The Tudor Pelagos FXD GMT
While I’m no expert on the subject of Mil-Spec watches, or military-related timing instruments in general, I do know instantly if I like a watch or not. And every now and then a watch comes along that wins me over with its first impression, only to be disappointed when I see it in real life for the first time. Luckily, it also happens the other way around. Press images don’t always do a watch justice, as for me, was the case with the Tudor Pelagos FXD GMT, a watch that sounded great on paper but looked a little underwhelming at first. That was until I strapped it on, and things started to make sense little by little. So, I decided to try and break down what made me change my mind, in hopes I can shine a more detailed light on this very utilitarian watch for you.?On a personal note, I have a deep love for Tudor. Back in 2016, I purchased my first Tudor watch, a Black Bay 79220N (yes, the ETA-powered one in black), just a week before I bought my first house with my now-wife.
Baselworld 2015 - Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award (specs & price) - Monochrome-Watches
That’s the one we (almost) predicted. We were 90% sure that Omega would come with a new edition of the Snoopy Speedmaster Professional. The one we imagined is however quite far from this new?Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award ref.?311.32.42.30.04.003. Using the iconic Speedy Pro base, it however brings not only a new dial but also several little details that will definitely create a proper?collectible edition. Before we go into what is new in this?Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award, let’s first look at what doesn’t change. The base of this limited edition (1.970 pieces) is THE classical Omega Speedmaster Professional a.k.a Moonwatch, meaning a 42mm chronograph made in both polished and brushed?stainless steel, with a 3-counter layout and using the Omega Calibre 1861. Technically speaking, Omega keeps here the nearly same (and totally superb) recipe since 1965. A Snoopy Award edition of the Speedmaster isn’t either a n
Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Bucherer BLUE Limited Edition
Since its introduction in mid-2021, the Tissot PRX has become some sort of a phenomenon for the brand. Surfing on the vibe of the high-end luxury sports watch with integrated bracelet, yet with a far more accessible price despite its great execution, the collection has rapidly expanded to now feature classic steel models, steel-and-gold editions, a trendy green dial and now a bold chronograph version. Today, it’s a limited edition that’s being launched, together with the world’s largest watch retailer, as part of the so-called Bucherer BLUE theme. And yes, if this Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Bucherer BLUE does look familiar, it’s also more relevant price-wise than the blue-gold edition offered by the brand itself.?Being number one when it comes to selling watches, Bucherer has enough power to have its own collection of collaboration watches, all turning around the same theme of blue. The latest watch to surface from this collection is an accessible one, and a very
