Our favourite Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks that you can buy today - waiting lists permitting... - Monochrome Watches
The word iconic is one of the most overused and abused words in the watch industry, however, I bet everyone agrees that the Royal Oak IS a true design icon. A watch that defined the modern luxury sports watch. In 1972, Audemars Piguet and Gerald Genta created an archetype; match a sporty but clearly expensively crafted steel watch with an integrated steel bracelet and an automatic, ultra-thin movement. Et voil¨¤, there’s the luxury sports watch, an archetype that has never seemed more relevant than today, as demand for such watches is higher, much higher, than availability.?Since this first luxury sports watch was launched in 1972, most major luxury brands have designed watches in the same genre, but the one-and-only Royal Oak remains inimitable! Here are some of the best Royal Oaks you can get in 2019. Let’s rephrase that; here are some the best Royal Oaks listed in the AP collections but be prepared for some of these models to come with a waiting list that stretches into t
The Longines HydroConquest GMT, An (Almost) Perfect Traveller's Dive Watch
The long-standing HydroConquest collection of diving watches by Longines has been a fan favourite for years. Since its introduction in 2007, it gained significant traction with enthusiasts and collectors. It was presented as a more modern diving tool to offset the retro-styled Legend Diver, also (re)launched in 2007. During the course of its life so far, plenty of colour variations have been introduced, including two-tone models with gold PVD elements. The most significant expansion to the range, though, came earlier this year as Longines decided it was time to up the HydroConquest’s versatility. Incorporating True GMT functionality, the Longines HydroConquest GMT becomes a robust diving watch fit for a globetrotting lifestyle. So, with all this in mind and a hands-on experience being a touch overdue, we have finally spent some time with two of the four new HydroConquest GMTs.With the introduction of the HydroConquest GMT also came a slightly new case design. The stout 41mm wide
Christmas Buying Guide - Our Top 5 Dive / Sports watches of 2015 - Monochrome Watches
Yesterday, we showed you our Top 7 Chronographs of 2015, a category that we believe to be one of the most important of them all… “One of”, yes because there’s a second one that must be regarded as pretty damn important, first because this category certainly represents the largest portion of sales for most brands and also because that’s the one collectors cherish most. We’re talking about dive and sports watches. And here is our buying guide focused on the best?Dive / Sports watches of 2015.Tudor Heritage Black Bay Black Ref. 79220NThis is THE ONE that collectors were expecting (and us too, as we already imagined?this edition almost 2 years ago, in our usual Baselworld predictions). After being launched with a burgundy bezel and gilded accents, followed by a cold and cool blue edition with silvered accents, Tudor finally creates the proper vintage-inspired edition, a watch that reunites all the beloved?features of antique Submariners: black bezel with
Opinion - what to think about the new Piaget Polo S and Polo S Chronograph in steel (specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
In an event that occurred yesterday night in New York City, Piaget, the manufacture?known for ultra-thin watches, introduced a brand new version of its sports watch, the Polo. This new?Piaget Polo S is special in?several aspects, as first of all it shows an entirely new design – previous watches looked like this (click here)?and were still rather consistent since the inception of the model in 1979 – and secondly, it is made in?steel (previous series were in?gold or titanium). It becomes the new “entry-level” for the brand, and is a new proposal for the?luxury sports watch segment. With its pretty?face and in-house movements, the new Piaget Polo S?seems to be a pretty good deal, however that pretty face looks familiar….?Introducing?the?new Piaget Polo S and Polo S Chronograph in steelFor this brand new edition, the Piaget Polo undergoes a serious refreshing cure. The design of the collection, which was consistent since its inception in 1979 (a sort of cushi
Recap: The Best Dive Watches of Watches & Wonders 2024 and Around
Despite not being the most spotted watch genre during the Geneva Watch Week – there was a clear focus on smaller, more elegant and colourful timepieces this year – the dive watch remains one of the most important categories, with fierce competition between big manufactures and smaller independent brands. A key element of all watch collections, something that most watch brands know, we’ve nevertheless seen solid new models, as well as truly unexpected aquatic timepieces… Here are the five most notable new dive watches we saw during Watches and Wonders 2024 and fringe shows held during Geneva Watch Week.?The Compact Doxa SUB 200T CollectionAn emblematic design made smaller, with only a few compromises on key diving features and an extra dose of fun and colours… This is how we could summarize the new Doxa SUB 200T Collection, a smaller take on the classic design of the brand.
