Buying Guide - 5 Watches That Redefine Ultra-Thin Watchmaking
Ultra-thin is a truly fascinating area of watchmaking. Ultra-thin is the child of miniaturization, which has always been one of the watchmakers’ goals. Ultra-thin is where design and mechanics meet, where the ingenuity of the watchmaker isn’t guided by the need to pack more and more functions, but by the wish to make the watch as elegant as possible. Ultra-thin is a true watchmaker’s field of research that requires complex mechanical solutions. But for long, ultra-thin meant classic watches. Can’t ultra-thin be cool, bold, modern, slightly provocative or usable on a daily basis too? Actually, in the past years, ultra-thin has changed and is no more reserved for the so-called “tuxedo” watch. And here are 5 impressively slender models that prove you can be thin and different.?The Modern Classic – Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-ThinMeet the thinnest perpetual calendar on the market… This watch combines the bes
Introducing: The Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic 0 Oxygen 38mm
As a brand that has always fostered its connection to Europe's highest mountain, Montblanc’s Iced Sea collection of dive watches in 2022 was a surprise. With dials inspired by the Mer de Glace, the largest glacier in the Mont Blanc massif, the ISO certified dive watches can fathom depths of 300 metres. For 2025, Montblanc expands its Iced Sea Automatic Date collection with two new models in smaller 38mm case sizes, now with Zero Oxygen cases. In tune with the trend for smaller unisex diameters, the more compact dimensions are complemented with new glacier dial colours in frosty white and arctic light blue. The new 38mm models come in stainless steel cases with a thickness of 12.3mm, decorated with predominantly brushed finishes and polished bevels. Equipped with the brand's novel Zero Oxygen cases, seen with the Iced Sea 4810, a blue seal between the sapphire crystal and the case prevents fogging and ensures the components will not oxidise. The unidirectional dive bezel matches th
Hands-On - Bianchet Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork (Specs & Price)
Bianchet is a new horological independent watchmaker founded by Rodolfo and Emmanuelle Festa Bianchet, located in the Neuchatel area. Following a career in Fintech, the Festa Bianchet couple embarked on a new entrepreneurial project, following their passion and desire to create their own watches. On the occasion of the Geneva Watch Days, we were able to meet them and take a look at their first creation, the Bianchet Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork. When presenting his first horological creation, Rodolfo Festa Bianchet immediately mentions his love for tonneau-shaped watches and his fascination for the work of the Italian mathematician Fibonacci and for the Golden Ratio (1.618). Their idea was to create a modern timepiece, applying the golden ratio to design not only the case (and its profile) but also the movement (shaping the different bridges). Introducing The Rado Captain Cook x Marina Hoermanseder
Most of us associate Rado with high-tech ceramic watches and sleek contemporary lines. Rado’s Captain Cook resurfaced in 2017, a dive watch based on an automatic model from 1962. Offered in different case sizes and materials, including trendy bronze with ceramic bezels, the vintage vibe and resilient 300m water-resistance of the Captain Cook was a hit. Named after the famous British explorer, the original 37mm Captain Cook featured a concave dial with an inward sloping bezel and a domed crystal. Other hallmark features included the prominently painted indices, the XL arrow-shaped minute hand and the rotating anchor logo at 12 o'clock to animate the dial. For 2021, Rado’s Captain Cook changes tack and sails into feminine waters. Reinterpreted for women by Marina Hoermanseder, a French-Austrian designer whose career began with an internship at Alexander McQueen, the new Rado Captain Cook is decked out in attractive dusty pink with rose gold coloured accents.Pretty in pinkThe
The TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 (Specs & Price)
If there is one name that could best define the connection between cars and watches, it has to be Carrera. Indeed, the name has long been associated with two of the most prominent names of both the car and the watch industry. On one side is the legendary car of Porsche, the 911 Carrera. On the other is the cult watch of TAG Heuer, the Carrera Chronograph. And the two pay tribute to an emblematic race of the 1950s, the Carrera Panamericana. There’s hardly a more natural connection than this, and it was first sealed in 2021, with a partnership between TAG Heuer and Porsche, resulting in the Carrera Porsche Edition. Both brands now come back with a watch that evokes the 1970s and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the car that has made the 911 a true racer… Meet the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7.A Carrera story…Both Jack Heuer and Ferry Porsche were fascinated by La Carrera Panamericana. A far-away endurance race staged in Mexico, it would end up inspiring the name
