Yellow Gold comes back - Hands-on with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph 26320 Yellow Gold (live pics & price) - Monochrome Watches
Associating gold to an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak has always been kind of strange to us, as, when launched in 1972, this luxury sports watch was only available in stainless steel (and this choice of material was clearly part of the base concept). However, with the demand for gold in certain regions and for specific clients, the Royal Oak has been updated with the precious material in almost all its iterations. Recently, the collection was only featuring watches in rose gold, replacing yellow gold since approximately 7 or 8 years. For the SIHH 2016, the Le Brassus-based manufacture made a surprising move by bringing yellow gold back – well, a come back… at least for sports watches and for the Royal Oak. Let’s see if the old-but-new recipe works on the?Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph 26320 Yellow Gold.First let’s go over the watch. The?Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph 26320 is a known watch, introduced at the SIHH, back in 2012, as an update of the older
Introducing Pascal Brandt, Denis Peshkov and the result of our Habring2 x MONO Charity Auction - Monochrome Watches
Last month Phillips auctioned a unique Doppelchrono a.k.a. Split Second Chronograph a.k.a. Rattrapante. It was the watch that Maria and Richard Habring2 and we, at MONOCHROME, together donated to the Save the Children charity organisation. And there’s more news, as we have two new team members whom I want to introduce!?But first, that stunning and unique Salmon Doppel 38 Habring2 x MONOCHROME that was auctioned last month. The result is that I wired 25,000 CHF (the entire proceeds of this auction) to the Save the Children organisation’s bank account yesterday. Phillips, in association with Bacs & Russo, generously offered to auction this ‘lot’ free of charge, so the full proceeds could be donated to Save the Children. Of course, I’d love to thank Maria and Richard Habring for their incredibly generous donation and Phillips for auctioning our watch free of charge. But most importantly, I’d love to thank the person who bought this lovely salmon-dia
2022 Cartier Pasha de Cartier Grille 41mm Gold
The Pasha de Cartier collection was launched in 1985 following a design by Gerald Genta that captured the hedonistic rush of the 1980s. The exotic name of the collection was taken from the equally extravagant Pasha Thami El Glaoui of Marrakesh, a loyal customer of the brand and keen collector between 1920-1950. Responding to Cartier’s penchant for unusual shapes, the Pasha was conceived around the concept of a “square inside a circle” and featured a distinctive cabochon-capped protector over the crown attached to a small chain. The Pasha collection prospered until around 2011, when it was discontinued. Two years ago, during the digital edition of Watches & Wonders, the Pasha was reintroduced in 41 and 35mm cases with Valfleurier automatic movements. This year, the Pasha de Cartier Grille stages a second comeback (it made an appearance in the 1990s under ref. 1021 with a rotating diver’s bezel) inspired by a watertight watch with a protective metallic grid ov
Introducing: The Return of the Triton Spirotechnique Dive Watch
While the Submariner, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and Omega Seamaster ruled the 1950s enthusiast and military diving scene, it was the Triton Spirotechnique in 1963 that briefly became the most expensive dive watch of its times, although never the best known. It was developed for the Spirotechnique company (Aqualung), founded by oceanographer/filmmaker/French naval officer Jacques Cousteau in 1946, and was used by both American and French navy divers. Like many watchmakers, the brand didn't survive the Quartz Crisis in the 1970s, but was revived in 2015 by a pair of watch enthusiasts.?The Triton Spirotechnique Classic Black (applied markers)The original Triton Spirotechnique was developed by a retired French Air Force colonel, Jean Rene Parmentier, who developed the protected (and patented) 12 o'clock crown system, shrouded by an articulating lug. The watch was manufactured in France by Dodane and sold in Spirotechnique dive shops (now named Aqualung) alongside professional diving equipm
Introducing: Patek Philippe Worldtime with Date 5330G
With a legacy extending over 80 years, including the renowned Cottier watches, Worldtimers stand out as one of Patek Philippe’s quintessential complications. Patek Philippe was the brand to reintroduce this complication in 2000 with the unveiling of the 5110 model. Subsequently, the 5110 was succeeded by the 5130 in 2006, which in turn was replaced by the 5230 in 2016. In 2023, the brand's first worldtimer with date, the reference 5330, was released as a 300-piece limited edition exclusive to Japan with a purple guilloche dial. As could be expected the model now enters the regular collection. It comes in a white gold blue-gray dial combination and on a calfskin strap with a denim pattern. Meet the reference 5330G-001.This new generation of Patek Philippe worldtimer reference 5330G-001 distinguishes itself with a patented world first designed to enhance user experience and comfort: a date display (pointer date) that works in sync with the local time, i.e. that of the time zone sel
