Interview Julien Tornare CEO Zenith on 2021 Strategy and Chronomaster
During the digital version of LVMH Watch Week, Bvlgari, Hublot and Zenith presented some of their novelties for 2021. It was also an opportunity for MONOCHROME to interview Julien Tornare, the CEO of Zenith, to find out how the brand has navigated 2020 and to take a look at the brand's strategy for 2021.Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – Needless to say, 2020 was a challenging year. What tactics did Zenith adopt to navigate the difficulties?Julien Tornare, Zenith – It has been an intense year. Following the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the El Primero, we kicked off 2020 in Dubai with the LVMH Watch Week 2020, where the presentation of our novelties encountered great enthusiasm. Then came the lockdown during which we had to close the manufacture for six weeks. It's been tough months for the watch industry. We wondered what we could do Traditional resilience planning was not enough and I asked my team to be very active, to take initiatives and to speed up the digitalization
IWC Pilot's Watch Timezoner Chronograph "80 Years Flight To New York" IW395003 - Hands-On, Price
The IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Chronograph might not be the most coveted watch in the brand’s pilot collection and still, it is certainly one of the most relevant… Why, you might well ask? For the main reason that it combines two of the most practical features for such a watch; a flyback chronograph and a clever dual-time function actuated by the bezel. Today, as we celebrate the 80th anniversary of Antoine de Saint Exupery's historic flight across the Atlantic (and because IWC is a partner of the Antoine de Saint Exupery Youth Foundation), the brand unveils a new limited-edition Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Chronograph “80 Years Flight To New York”.The Latecoere 521 Lieutenant de Vaisseau Paris, piloted by Henri Guillaumet and with Antoine de Saint Exupery onboard, was the first plane to make a non-stop flight across the North Atlantic in July 1939.In addition to breaking records as a pilot, Antoine de Saint Exupery made aviation history as
Weekly Watch Photo - Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic black dial - Monochrome Watches
One of the watches that was high on my wish-list, before larger sized watches became fashionable, is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic. Seeing these photos bring back some good memories and make me realize how much the watch industry has changed over the past 12 years. When I started to become interested in watches and bought my first ‘expensive’ watches, a vintage Heuer Autavia and a TAG Heuer Monaco, these watches where considered rather large. The 44 mm sized watches from Panerai were considered HUGE and when IWC launched its Big Pilot watch in 2003 it was considered humongous. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic also grew in size, from 38.1 mm in diameter to a very moderate of 40 mm for the new Master Geographic that I reviewed last year. Introducing Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Limited Edition
Rado introduced its Captain Cook model to the market in 1962 to satisfy the demand from amateur and professional divers. Keen to conquer the depths, these underwater adventures would have been unfeasible without a proper watch. Production of the Captain Cook was halted in 1968, with the estimated total number of pieces released during six years as low as 8,000. In 2017, perhaps in response to the popular demand for vintage-looking models, Rado announced the vintage re-edition of the 1962 Captain Cook watch, 37mm in diameter, very close to the original, and a larger 45mm version. Since then, quite a few retro and vintage-inspired watches have been launched, including a 42mm Captain Cook Automatic in 2019, followed by? Rado Captain Cook Bronze Collection in 2020. Last year the Master of Materials announced four versions of the 43mm Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic model, three of them with matte black ceramic cases and bracelets and black ceramic inserts in a steel bezel, with one option o
