In-Depth: Exploring the New Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Collection (incl. video)
Coinciding with the arrival of Guido Terreni as CEO of the brand, high-end Swiss watchmaker Parmigiani Fleurier has undergone a complete restructuring for the past years. This move was initiated by the launch of a significant collection, the Tonda PF, which not only modernized the vision we had of PF but also pushed it into a new dimension (business-wise). Still, a brand cannot live on one collection alone, and Parmigiani Fleurier has an equally important name in its catalogues: Toric. An essential part of the brand’s history, the Toric was Michel Parmigiani‘s first venture into the world of wristwatches. This year, this elegant collection is back… Time to see if the new Toric Small Seconds lives up to its name as we’re meeting with Guido Terreni, with who we’ll discuss this new collection in our latest in-depth movie.?Concise history of PF and the Toric CollectionParmigiani Fleurier has not always been about making wristwatches. In fact, the story of the
A different perspective on the Bovet Monsieur Bovet Turquoise
In a world that seemingly goes mental from time to time, it's worth trying to keep a clear focus on things. The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-018 Tiffany is out of reach for pretty much all of us, and prices for the Oyster Perpetual with Turquoise dials have been pushed to ridiculous heights. The watch world tends to sway back and forth between reference numbers, colours, materials, complications and whatever you can differentiate in a watch. With Turquoise blue (or Tiffany if you will) gearing up fast to become one of 2022's hottest colours, it made me wonder what alternatives are out there. One such watch is the recently introduced Bovet Monsieur Bovet Turquoise, a spectacular piece by the Swiss independent watchmaker. If we talk about colour, our Managing Editor has recently mentioned the shifting trend towards brighter, more frivolous colours. Along with various other watches, this Bovet follows that trend to the letter. It was presented a little while ago, even before the whole
The Compact Habring2 Doppel38 Split-Seconds
Austrian independent watchmaker created by couple Maria and Richard Habring, also known as Habring2, has been building a variety of watches/movements, most of them with a little twist for the display – such as a deadbeat seconds or a foudroyante seconds. Yet, their most emblematic model is, without a doubt, the so-called Doppel, or split-seconds chronograph. Offered in various generations, the latest being the Doppel-Felix, it has always been a rather large model. But, after finding out the “small is beautiful”, the watchmaking couple has decided to come back more compact, following the current trend for downsizing. And the result is this appealing new Habring2 Doppel38.BackgroundThe story of the Habring2 Doppel starts in 2012, with the Doppel 2.0 watch… the concept; using a well-known mechanical base (a 7750) and modifying it with a rattrapante (or split-seconds, or doppelchronograph) function, yet with a price that was closer to a standard chronograph. A year
Oris presents the monochromatic Divers Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400
The Oris Divers Sixty-Five is among the brand's most iconic and recognised collections, going back to the original from 1965 (hence the name). There are a handful of distinctive and unique variations, such as this faithful reissue of a classic, but most follow the same general design language. The latest Divers Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400 brings the in-house calibre 400 to the series in a non-limited edition, which is a first. We've already seen the new movement in Aquis divers, so it's great to have in-house Divers Sixty-Five models in regular production. The stainless steel case is 40mm in diameter, which is fairly standard for the series and a perfect contemporary size. The bidirectional rotating bezel has a black aluminium insert that's familiar enough, but it now sports a 12-hour scale for a second time zone. This is another first for a Divers Sixty-Five in addition to the calibre 400. A double-domed sapphire crystal with an interior anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while
TAG Heuer Appoints Alec Monopoly As Art Provocateur & J.C. Biver explains us why
A few days ago, right from the Miami Contemporary Art week, TAG Heuer and its CEO, Jean-Claude Biver (also President of the LVMH Watch Division), announced the appointment of American street-artist Alec Monopoly as Art Provocateur for the Avant-Garde brand. Well, as you may have seen already (it was all over social medial feeds), some reacted quite?fiercely to this announcement, judging the collaboration rather irrelevant. However, we were there and we took the time to sit down with Mister Biver and Alec Monopoly, to understand what was behind this appointment. And we can tell you that first, it’s far from being a stupid idea, then it’s a real first in the industry and finally, it’s a great idea for an industry that faces a lack of creativity.Who’s Alec Monopoly? Alec is a famous street-artist (while usually a rather underground field of art, he is well-known, at least in this sector), born in New-York, now based in California and in his thirties – ps. don
