First Look: The IWC Big Pilot 43 Tourbillon Markus Buhler (Incl. Video)
The IWC Big Pilot has earned its cult status, as the oversized 46mm pilot’s watch is, without a doubt, one of the most emblematic and striking watches of its kind. With over 20 years of history (and close to 85 years if you look back at the ancestor, the 1940 B-Uhr by IWC), there have been countless editions, some truly collectable. Yet, probably no other timepiece from IWC’s pilot collection has achieved the status of the 2008 Big Pilot Markus Buhler (ref. IW5003) – an ultra-limited edition inspired by a unique piece Markus Bu?hler created for a competition in the final year of his watchmaker apprenticeship at IWC Schaffhausen. Its most striking feature, an aircraft turbine on the small seconds and over its barrel, has captivated collectors over the years… As a gift for the fans, the turbine-equipped IWC Big Pilot Markus Buhler is back in 2023, now in platinum and linked to a complex flying tourbillon architecture. And we have its creator, Mr Buhler himself, pr
Why The Omega Speedmaster 57 is a Great Alternative to the Moonwatch?
Anything that Omega can launch within the Speedmaster collection will be immediately compared to the one and only Moonwatch. It’s just the way it is… The original, classic Speedmaster Professional has such a formidable cult status that it has become a benchmark model for everything else Omega creates. And the comparison is hardly objective. But we have to keep in mind that the Speedmaster is more than just one watch; it’s an entire collection of chronographs. And although some might not have the same aura as the Moonwatch, there are nevertheless some true gems in the collection. Case in point; the recently revamped Speedmaster 57. And today, in our latest video, we make that difficult comparison with the Moonwatch. And, yes, it can be a great alternative to the all-time classic Professional model.Say you’re in the market for a luxury hand-wound watch (yes, because the Speedmaster 57 is no longer an automatic watch, and this is the main evolution compared to the
Omega Explains the Co-Axial Escapement - Monochrome Watches
Who doesn’t know about Omega’s co-axial escapement? I guess everyone who has an above average interest in (mechanical) watches has heard about the ‘co-axial escapement’. It’s been 14 years since Omega launched their first timepiece featuring the co-axial escapement that was?invented (in 1974) and patented (in1980) by the English master watchmaker, George Daniels. Yes that’s the same George Daniels of the book we recommended yesterday.?In 1999, at the Baselworld watch fair, Omega announced a new watch for the DeVille line: chronometer rated and it was a limited edition. This DeVille was the first timepiece featuring the co-axial escapement that Omega?they bought from George Daniels, and the movement was caliber 2500. This DeVille was limited to 1,000 pieces in yellow gold, 1,000 pieces in red gold and 100 pieces in platinum, like the one below (personally I’m crazy about watches with a salmon/copper dial). 2021 TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Automatic Collection Review
Following updates in several collections in recent years, with revamped Carrera and Monaco lines, TAG Heuer is ready to present its updated Aquaracer 300 collection. More refined yet still very recognisable, the new range has been fully revamped without losing its DNA. Taking a look at its origins, which can be traced back to the 2000-series from the early 1980s, we go hands-on with the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Calibre 5 Automatic collection.BackgroundThe TAG Heuer Aquaracer 300 collection can trace its roots back to the ref. 844 of 1978 (more on that in another article, with something cool to come) and the Heuer 2000, introduced in 1982. This versatile dive watch, when the company was still just Heuer, was the successor to the 1000 series. The Heuer 2000 collection was available in quartz and automatic versions and proved immensely popular, spawning all sorts of varieties. Models ranged from simple, three-handed quartz watches to a chronometer version and everything in
