A. Lange & Sohne at Concours of Elegance, An Interview with CEO Wilhelm Schmid And Tons of Car/Watch Photos - Monochrome Watches
Had you been walking past Hampton Court this weekend, no doubt you would you have heard the roar from the dozens of fine vintage specimens manoeuvring around the palace for the Concours of Elegance. This year was the first time A. Lange & Sohne had supported the event – though, you would be forgiven for confusing this Concourse of Elegance classic car event with the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at?Lake Como. Both events are supported by Lange, but this show held at Hampton Court Palace is, in fact, no relation to the one on Lake Como. Still, we were there, we enjoyed the scenery (cars and watches are always a winning combo - especially Lange x Classic Cars) and we talked with CEO Wilhelm Schmid. The home of the 2018 Concours of Elegance, Hampton Court.Running from the 31 August to 2 September, the Concours of Elegance began at Windsor Castle in 2012, before moving to St James' Palace in 2013. The show then moved on to Hampton Court Palace in 2014 at the Palace
Recap - MONOCHROME's 10 Most Read Reviews of the Year 2021
The end of the year is near, and we’ll soon be turning the page on 2021, a year of transition and (again) unexpected things. Sure, it was better than 2020 and its constant ups and downs, and sure it has been a great year for MONOCHROME, with the launch of two Montres de Souscription (with Habring2 and Czapek), the addition of new members to the team, and probably the most articles published in a single year. Indeed, we published over 1,100 articles this year (not counting the remaining days of 2021), and it’s time for us to have a look at what were your ten favourite articles of 2021.Thank you all for reading MONOCHROME, commenting, and sharing your passion for watches with us.10 – Audemars Piguet x Marvel Royal Oak Concept Black PantherIt’s not really a surprise to see this watch making it to the top 10. It certainly was one of the most discussed watches of the year. And rightfully so, since the result of the collaboration between Audemars Piguet and Marvel, a
Omega De Ville Tresor, now in Steel (Hands-On Pics) - Monochrome Watches
Riding the vintage wave that has flooded the watch market of late, Omega revisits its 1949 Tresor gentlemen's dress watch. Re-edited in stainless steel, the new De Ville Tresor model incorporates Omega's Master Co-Axial Calibre 8910, with its COSC and Master Chronometer status certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).OriginsIn 2014, the 1949 Tresor watch was given a second lease of life and became the muse of? De Ville Tresor collection. The name Tresor, meaning treasure, referred to Omega's legendary calibre 30, which was housed within the original model’s 37.5mm pink gold case. The De Ville Tresor collection of 2014 was presented in three different golds (Omega Sedna? gold, 18k yellow and white gold) and equipped with the manual-winding, chronometry-certified Master Co-Axial Calibre 8511, with its high resistance to magnetic fields. The spooky Petite Seconde Louis Horror x Seconde/Seconde
Louis Erard has become a byword for collaborations, and the list of watchmakers and design studios involved with the brand is growing by the day. Fast becoming a tradition, the models singled out for the collaborative transformations are the Regulateur and the Petite Seconde from Louis Erard’s Excellence collection. Tapping into a festive Halloween mood, the latest Petite Seconde has been designed by seconde/seconde, the alias of Romaric Andre, who has gained fame for customising vintage watches with lighthearted, whimsical touches.Seconde/secondeA serial hand-swapper, Parisian designer Romaric Andre makes no qualms about his intentions: “I vandalize other people’s products only because I failed at building mine.” Taking the seriousness out of vintage watches, Andre’s tongue-in-cheek customisations include a Air King with a cloud substituting the central seconds hand or a Patek Philippe model branded Tiffany & Co. with a croissant-shaped minute hand
Pre-SIHH 2015: Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Calendar Meteorite dial (specs and price) - Monochrome-Watches
The?Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Calendar isn’t actually?a new watch?in the catalog. It first appeared?during the 2013 edition of the SIHH?(the Geneva watch fair that will take place in January). It uses a very classical display and a very restrained design. So, how to give a new attraction to an already known model and bring some freshness? By introducing new dials! And the ones that Jaeger-LeCoultre chose to release are pretty interesting. Welcome the?Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Calendar Meteorite dial.The?Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Calendar is an appealing but very classical dress watch, with its round case, slim profile and extremely balanced design. Everything here is made to be discreet, elegant but efficient. It brings back an old layout, used in the 1950s and 1960s, a specific way to display a complete calendar: date on the external part of the dial (indicated by a hand), day and month discreetly displayed in apertures at 12 for a high legibility and moon-phases at 6.
