Pre-SIHH 2019 - Introducing the Cartier Libre Jewelry Collection - Freedom of Shape and Colour
Cartier manages to fuse a unique touch of French sophistication with a very liberal attitude towards design. Cartier’s love affair with?fascinating shaped watches?has lasted for a century and you'd be hard pressed to find a straightforward round watch chez la Maison. Unusual shapes, like the square Santos, the rectangular Tank, the barrel-shaped Tortue, or even the weird and wild 1967 Crash watch inspired by a Baignoire Allongee model that was purportedly mangled and melted in a car crash, have been and still are very much an identity trait of the brand. Last year signalled the return of the Santos, and in 2019 the mood for nostalgia is still in full swing as we have witnessed with the pre-SIHH release of the Cartier Prive Tonneau watch for men inspired by a 1906 model with an elongated tonneau case. Women are also in for a treat with the pre-SIHH 2019 release of the Baignoire Allongee, a model that literally takes a dip in a sea of precious stones. Presented in white or yellow g
Auction: Top Lots Of The Upcoming Indie Watchmaking Geneva Sale of Ineichen
Spring in Geneva means many things, and not just walks around the Lake. It is, of course, the auction season. Alongside the Big Three (Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips), other auction houses will organise their sales in the capital of watchmaking. This year, Swiss Maison Ineichen Auctioneers will hold its first auction in Geneva on May 9, 10 and 11, 2023. And for its first participation in the Geneva auction weekend, the Zurich-based house presents a rather impressive selection of watches entirely dedicated to independent and small creative brands composed predominantly of unique pieces and extremely rare watches.?In this article, we’ve selected six watches that we believe are the best of the sale, but of course, there are many more watches to discover. A tourbillon T30 by FP Journe? Yes, there’s one. A Czapek Antacrtique Rattrapante, a De Bethune DB1 (the first watch of the brand) or a watch by Thierry Ducret? Ineichen will have that too. There are even a few
Longines Heritage Classic Sector Dial Black - Hands-On Review, Price
Explaining that Longines is good at making vintage-inspired watches that are bringing back the flair of some of its greatest hits of the past is like saying that Porsche does good sportscars. It’s almost like repeating yourself. Looking at the brand’s portfolio, and putting apart the recent Spirit collection, watches such as the Legend Diver or the all-new Ultra-Chron High-Frequency?are enough to make a point. But there’s one watch in particular that appeals to me, a watch that isn’t the most striking and that doesn’t come with the most spectacular design or specifications. But one that truly caught my attention, the Heritage Classic Sector Dial Black…Longines’ Heritage collection is the brand’s playground for vintage re-editions. While recently the brand has shown great creativity in the Spirit collection, with this titanium chronograph or the acclaimed Zulu Time, this range is not per se about re-editing glorious watches from the past,
The Collector's Series - The "Cooler than ice-cream" Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726 of Kristian - Monochrome Watches
When I'm speaking to a collector and you glance down to see their watch proudly sports the scuffs and scratches of daily wear, it gently warms the soul. Not only do you know that the owner, more often than not, chooses that watch, but you know it has a story associated with it. As a watch geek, your mission is to try to extract those stories. In many cases, the owner generally does not require much persuasion to give you full brief. This couldn’t have been more true than when I sat down with our old friend Kristian Haagen to discuss his Nautilus 5726. A Genta classic and his current favourite watch. On a leather strap, the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726 offers a different look to many Nautilus out there. This week Kristian proudly showed us his beaten up Nautilus, what he thinks of Ed Sheeran wearing his watch (well, one like it) and why he became so fond of it.When and where did you buy it Kristian?? The 2021 Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 Editions
Vacheron Constantin's famous cushion-shaped watch with an intriguing twist celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The twist that has made the Historiques American 1921 such a legendary watch is its diagonal time display and crown perched on the upper right corner of the case. To commemorate its centennial, Vacheron unveils two white gold models, in 40mm and 36.5mm cases, and a special limited 40mm platinum edition that will form part of the Collection Excellence Platine. All three models are powered by Vacheron's in-house manual-winding calibre 4400 AS. Let's have a closer look. Roaring TwentiesA century later and still going strong, Vacheron Constantin's American 1921 was produced primarily for the American market between 1919 and 1921 in very limited numbers. Coinciding with the Roaring Twenties, the American 1921 captured the design mood of the decade and the newfound optimism following the end of WW1. Widespread prosperity animated a consumer c
