Pre SIHH 2015: Three new models of the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia collection - Monochrome Watches
Today we’re introducing three new A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia models that will be officially launched during the upcoming SIHH in January 2015. Technically all three watches will remain the same, however in terms of aesthetics and/or size the Saxonia, the Saxonia Automatic and the Saxonia Dual Time will be updated. Small, but interesting and quite notable changes. The Saxonia line represents the “entry” level of the high-end watch manufacture from Saxony, Germany. Two of the models, the Saxonia and the Saxonia Dual Time, will be reduced in size. Yes, you read that correct! Every time that a watch brand decides to reduce size instead of increasing, we here at Monochrome applaud that kind of bravery. That’s just one of the reasons why we’re so taken by the 38.5 mm measuring Lange 1 that has remained unchanged in size for the last 20 years, and has not been subject to the big, bigger, biggest hype that went on in the watch industry in that past decade.A. Buying Guide: A Selection Of Unconventional yet Trendy Shaped Watches
Round, or square… That’s basically the norm for case designs in the industry, but there was a time where brands would experiment with shapes and designs to such an extent that genuine icons were created! Fortunately, there’s been a rather strong revival of unconventionally shaped watches in recent times, which we can only applaud. Watches like the Audemars Piguet [Re]Master02, for instance, hark back to the daring spirit of a bygone era that was in need of dusting off. We’ve touched upon the subject before, but there’s a new wave of creative and expressive watches to be discovered, from brands you might expect to new players on the field! Let’s take a closer look!Anoma A1 SlateFlaunting a surprisingly elegant triangular silhouette, the Anoma A1 made quite an impact when first released last year. The uniquely shaped case certainly commands your attention straight away, but there’s more to it than that. The vertically brushed dial with a crosshai
Shedding The Christmass Pounds With Five Lightweight Watches
Most of us, myself included, tend to let ourselves go a little during the Christmas season and indulge in a little too much food, drinks and money-splurging.?To combat that, many people have some form of New Year’s resolutions, like quitting smoking, losing a bit of weight perhaps, or just spending more time with your loved ones. To support you in those efforts, we thought it might be a fun and fitting idea to list some lightweight watches in today’s Buying Guide. That way, you might already have a little bump-start in shedding that unwanted extra weight. Joking aside, we’ve selected some of the most fascinating lightweight watches we’ve recently experienced. Enjoy!IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Racing Works Edition“Lightweight” and “Big Pilot’ might sound very contradictory, but in the case of IWC’s recent Racing Works Edition of its fabled Pilot’s Watch, the two go together very well. The iconic oversized watch is executed in m
Buying Guide - A selection of diving chronographs
A diving watch is generally considered to be very robust, has some form of rotating inner or outer bezel, is water-resistant to at least 200 meters and provides excellent legibility. But what if you’re looking for a bit more than just the time and possibly the date? What if you want to time the boiling of an egg, or maybe go a bit nuts, and time your underwater adventure from start to finish? Well, you’re in luck today as we take a closer look at some of last year’s newly presented diving chronographs! And we go from affordable to expensive and from stainless steel to titanium and bronze. Let’s dive straight in!Glashutte Original SeaQ ChronographThe SeaQ was Glashutte Original’s first crack at a modernly constructed dive watch, modelled after the Spezimatic RP TS 200 from 1969 (back then, GO was known as Glashutter Uhrenbetried GmbH or GUB). Despite the modern build, the SeaQ range has a rather tasty vintage look to it, unsurprising considering its inspira
Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover Edition - Monochrome Watches
Today, Zenith, in creative partnership with Land Rover, introduces the Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover Edition. Created specifically to celebrate the new Range Rover Evoque, it offers the distinctive, bold style of the Defy collection with some subtle design cues inspired directly by the car. Produced as a limited edition of just 200 pieces, we were fortunate to get our hands on one for a sneak preview. Here are our thoughts. For the past three years, Zenith and Land Rover have made an interesting and somewhat unique pairing. Watches and cars certainly go hand-in-hand, but the cars are usually of the high-power, sporting variety. Hence the name racing' watch. The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli Single Flying Tourbillon is a good - if rather extreme - example of this. The Zenith x Land Rover collaboration is different, however. More refined, more lifestyle-oriented. And definitely a lot more subtle. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
