Hands-On: The Edouard Koehn World Heritage II, a Rare WorldTimer with Alarm
Operating out of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, for several years now, the brand Edouard Koehn carries four distinct collections. Of particular interest is the model introduced in 2021 as part of the World Heritage line, blending two practical complications: world time and alarm functions. While several mechanical watches offer combinations of an alarm with a GMT or dual time display, the fusion of alarm and world time is a rarity in the horological world. In 2023, Edouard Koehn introduced a limited edition World Heritage II series, maintaining the same concept and underlying movement while offering a fresh presentation for enthusiasts to explore; we had a hands-on experience, and here are our impressions.First, a few words about the name. Edouard Koehn (1839-1908) was a watchmaker and at one time the co-owner of Patek, Philippe & Cie (a specialist of world time watches) A name with roots tracing back to the 19th century, it resurfaced in the modern watchmaking scene in 2020 thank
Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Small Seconds Green - Monochrome Watches
The iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is without a doubt the most iconic watch from the brand and even one of the iconic watches in the entire history of wristwatches. It might read like a bold statement, but do realize that the Reverso is around for no less than ninety years. Born from the necessity to protect the fragile crystal from the hard polo balls, the possibility of reversing the case was a clever solution. Today the Le Sentier based watch brand introduces a new colour to the Reverso line, which is green. Although, on second thought, it’s not entirely new and the 26 pieces for the London boutique are now changing owner for 4 to 5 times the retail price…Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Tribute to 1931 London FlagshipBorn in 1931, the Reverso and its emblematic shape and reversibility, always catch the attention. Although mostly in the ‘classical’ realm, the Reverso comes in various sizes and proportions. And more importantly, with a host of complications, a
Video Interview - 5 Questions For Davide Cerrato, Managing Director Of Montblanc Watch Division, About 2017 Collections - Monochrome Watches
At the SIHH 2017, Montblanc launched an entirely?redesigned TimeWalker?collection, transforming these watches from “modern-urban” to real sports timepieces, mainly chronographs and racing-car-oriented stop-watches. The mission of?Davide Cerrato, Managing Director Of Montblanc Watch Division, who’s experience in sports-watches is undeniable, was clear… and now that we’ve seen the watches, we can tell you that he successfully managed the?transformation of the collection. Instead of trying to explain it ourselves, let’s simply hear what the creator has to say about it. Introducing The Ochs und Junior Ochs Line Day/Night
When you think about astronomical watches, timekeepers that are capable of displaying complex indications related to the position of the moon, the sun, the length of days or the equation of time, you might have in mind watches with fairly loaded dials and an array of star-inspired textures. There’s surely nothing wrong with that, but it is far from being Ludwig Oechslin's approach to watchmaking. The pope of simplification does things in a fairly different way and the Ochs und Junior Ochs Line Day/Night, a complex astronomical timepiece that’s now available from the standard collection, boasts more complexity than you’d imagine. A true watchmaking sleeper!Like with almost all watches produced by indie watchmaker Ochs und Junior, this new Ochs Line Day/Night is the best definition of deceptively simple. At first, it might appear as just a time-only watch with a date and a set of additional complications, maybe a moon phase display. Not a big deal, you might think? But
First Look: The Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Openface 270th-Anniversary Editions
Not all of Vacheron Constantin's 270th-anniversary pieces are steeped in classicism. The three Traditionnelle Openface models are refreshingly contemporary, offering a view of the modern architecture of their calibres. While the complications differ from model to model, the new trilogy shares openworked dials, a special guilloche pattern designed to mark the anniversary and luxurious platinum cases with stepped lugs, fluting and a slender bezel. The Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Retrograde Date, powered by a new in-house movement, the Tourbillon Retrograde Date and the Complete Calendar Openface references are each limited editions of 370 individually numbered pieces.Having mentioned the contemporary spirit of the Openface dials, it might come as a surprise to learn that Vacheron had an openworked model in its archives, in the form of a pocket watch with an astronomical calendar produced in 1918. Almost 100 years later, the concept was revisited with the Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpet
