First Look: The Daniel Roth Tourbillon Rose Gold
Seen by many collectors and watch insiders as one of the most important names of the indie watchmaking scene, Daniel Roth was instrumental in the rebirth of the Breguet brand and as an initiator of the comeback of high-end mechanical watchmaking after the quartz crisis – check this in-depth article for all the details. Recently taken over by the watch division of Louis Vuitton, Daniel Roth made a resounding comeback last year with the Tourbillon Souscription, a modern watch inspired by the all-important original Tourbillon C187. The story continues and following the 20 initial watches in yellow gold, the Daniel Roth Tourbillon now comes back in rose gold as a permanent member of the collection – and with several little updates to make it unique. The story of Monsieur Daniel Roth and his eponymous brand is fairly complex, but it’s a fascinating one anyway. Born and raised in his grandfather's watchmaking workshop in Switzerland, trained as a watchmaker in France, Roth s
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT for Revolution & The Rake - Monochrome Watches
2019 marked the year that the world's thinnest chronograph title passed from the hands of one horological master to another. Italian watchmaker Bvlgari had many firsts under its belt up until last year, yet the slimmest chronograph was not one of them. Piaget took that title in 2015 and held onto it right up until the release of the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph in 2019 with its 6.90mm case. Now, the new Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT for Revolution & The Rake follows in the footsteps of last year's Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT, but with a couple of updates in the form of its luminous dial and an additional tachymeter scale. The timepiece is created exclusively for online luxury watch magazine Revolution and luxury e-commerce menswear company The Rake.Bvlgari first considered itself a serious contender in thin watch manufacture back in 2014. The Roman watchmaker began competing for ultra-thin complications with the 5mm thin Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, followed by the
Omega Explains the Co-Axial Escapement - Monochrome Watches
Who doesn’t know about Omega’s co-axial escapement? I guess everyone who has an above average interest in (mechanical) watches has heard about the ‘co-axial escapement’. It’s been 14 years since Omega launched their first timepiece featuring the co-axial escapement that was?invented (in 1974) and patented (in1980) by the English master watchmaker, George Daniels. Yes that’s the same George Daniels of the book we recommended yesterday.?In 1999, at the Baselworld watch fair, Omega announced a new watch for the DeVille line: chronometer rated and it was a limited edition. This DeVille was the first timepiece featuring the co-axial escapement that Omega?they bought from George Daniels, and the movement was caliber 2500. This DeVille was limited to 1,000 pieces in yellow gold, 1,000 pieces in red gold and 100 pieces in platinum, like the one below (personally I’m crazy about watches with a salmon/copper dial). Introducing 2021 TAG Heuer Carrera 3 Hands Collection - Hands-On, Price
The Carrera, like other collections by Heuer/TAG Heuer, is named after a prolific motorsport event or venue. Legendary names like Monaco, Monza, Silverstone, or Formula 1. All strong names inspired by the world of motorsports. The TAG Heuer Carrera, of course, takes its names from the Carrera Panamericana, a gruelling border-to-border road-racing event held in Mexico from 1950 to 1954. TAG Heuer launched the Carrera collection in 1963 and nowadays labels it “born on the racetrack”, something very fitting with the brand's identity. In 2021, almost 60 years after first debuting the name, the collection is alive and well, with the brand introducing three new models – Date, Day-Date and Twin-Time Date – making the 2021 TAG Heuer Carrera 3 Hands Collection. The origins of CarreraThe history of the “Carrera” name as used by Heuer pre-dates the launch of the Heuer Carrera collection by a full decade, however. In 1953 Heuer produced the 404 series watch, dedi
Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Virtual Museum - Monochrome Watches
The Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso is probably one of the most iconic watches around. So it’s time to browse through the new Reverso Virtual Museum, which offers a nice opportunity to flip through the Reverso’s history and admire both old and recent models.Of course browsing through Reverso history was most interesting. I had no idea that the Reverso Grande Date I used to own, was initially launched in 2003 and it’s still in the collection. It’s magnificent that Jaeger created watches that stay fashionable for such a long period. One minor point of criticism, my Macbook doesn’t like the virtual museum as much as
