Buying Guide - Some of the Best Nautical-Inspired Watches of 2022
Dive watches, pilot’s watches, automotive-inspired watches, traveller’s watches… These might well be the categories of watches we most often cover on MONOCHROME. There’s one style of watch, inspired by the antique concept of the Marine Chronometer, that is somehow a bit more niche, but nevertheless often comes with a cool, summery elegance; the nautical-inspired watch. Meant to look good on land or on the deck of a boat, and in time for yachting or sailing season, we’ve decided to take a closer look at some of the best nautical-inspired watches available now on the market. The Breguet Marine Hora Mundi 5557The Marine collection is all about the exploration of the seas – well, considering its positioning now, it’s more about the exploration of the yacht-club. Nevertheless, it is directly inspired by the past of the brand – when A.L. Breguet was Chronometer-maker to the French Royal Navy – and is the brand’s vision of a sporty-ch
Introducing: New Steel-and-Gold Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch
While mostly known as a stainless steel watch, the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch has been seen in multiple precious metals over the years, including recent Moonshine, Canopus or Sedna gold alloys. With two-tone watches somehow making a comeback in the past few years, it’s without much surprise that Omega releases today a new duo of bicolor, steel-and-gold Speedmaster Moonwatch models, using the brand’s proprietary Sedna (pink) and Moonshine (yellow) alloys next to classic steel, as well as several gold-toned accents on the dial.Technically speaking, nothing new to report. We’re here looking at classic Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch models. If you want to know everything there’s to know about the current generation Moonwatch, we invite you to take a closer look at this 2021 extended review here or look at the recent white dial version. In a nutshell, these new two-tone models rely on the updated version of this iconic model with a 42mm asymmetrical

Swiss watchmakers are ushering in Chinese New Year with exclusive limited-edition models inspired by zodiac animals and Asian cultural traditions. To celebrate the year 2025, which is believed to bring personal growth, strategic planning and embrace transformation, Oris releases a special Year of the Snake timepiece, a modern, highly technical 44mm watch featuring a skeletonized dial and equipped with an in-house developed calibre. The ProPilot X Calibre 115, introduced in 2019, was a transformative moment for Oris, setting a new direction for the brand with its robust design and technical prowess later seen in more classic versions. The Oris ProPilot X Year of the Snake retains the strength and innovation of the original while introducing unique decorative elements to honour the zodiac theme. The ProPilot X Year of the Snake features a 44mm multi-piece brushed titanium case, water-resistant to 100 meters and topped with a double-domed sapphire crystal. Vacheron Constantin Historiques Triple Calendar 1948 (Specs & Price)
There is no question Vacheron Constantin makes exceptionally fine timepieces. The brand really comes into its element though when it focuses its attention on vintage-inspired models (in my humble opinion at least). These models invariably belong to the Historiques collection, which celebrates some of the brand's significant models from the past by offering a fresh take. My previous favourite was the 1955 Cornes de Vache Chronograph launched in 2015 but that model was recently usurped by the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Triple Calendar 1948 I am reviewing here today – which is the luxurious and moon phase-equipped sister of the steel?Historiques Triple Calendar 1942 reviewed here.BackgroundGiven that this collection focuses on historic models, it seems only fair to add in a bit of history for context. As you are no doubt aware, the Triple Calendar 1948 was launched last year with a stablemate, the Triple Calendar 1942 in steel (read Brice's excellent review of that watch here).
