Introducing Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Tiger (Specs & Price)
Unlike our Western tradition of celebrating New Year on a fixed date, the Chinese celebrate the date on the second new Moon after the winter solstice. In 2022, Chinese New Year will fall on the 1st of February and with it a changing of the guard for one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. Leaving behind the Year of the Ox, 2022 welcomes the Year of the Tiger, an animal revered in China as the king of all beasts. Since the Year of the Snake in 2013, Chopard has celebrated the Chinese New Year with splendid timepieces dedicated to the zodiac animal and decorated with the ancestral Asian technique of Urushi lacquer. As in past years, the watch selected to host the artwork is the ultra-thin and elegant 39.50mm L.U.C XP in ethical 18k rose gold. The Year of the TigerA recurrent figure in Chinese art, the tiger is associated with courage, confidence, fortune and intelligence. IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Steel 2017 - Review / Price
As we’ve seen yesterday, the story behind the IWC Da Vinci has been eventful and longer than many thought. If the first edition dates back 1969, it’s really in 1985 that the Da Vinci?obtained the recognition we know today, with one iconic version, the Ref. 3750 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, conceived in the mind of genius Kurt Klaus. For 2017, there’s a new Da Vinci collection, which takes inspiration in that vintage model. And this might be the main reason why we heard many collectors praising one edition in particular, the one we believe to be the cornerstone of the 2017 range, the?IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in Steel. When this watch has been introduced, a few weeks before the official launch at the SIHH 2017, IWC was already clear about the inspiration for the new model. No more tonneau-shaped case, no hexagonal inspiration and enough with the design that has been rather disliked by collectors. The 2017 Da Vinci is a back to basic watch: round cas
First Look: The new Louis Erard Regulateur Grave Noir
Sector dials, with their unique segmented layouts designed over a century ago for improved readability, have a lasting appeal that continues to inspire modern watchmakers. Today, many brands incorporate sector dial watches into their collections, and Louis Erard – founded in 1929 during the peak of this design’s popularity – is no exception. Its Excellence Petite Seconde series offers a variety of colourful models, including the lovely Petite Seconde Terracotta, as a fresh interpretation of this classic style. Louis Erard’s latest release, Le Regulateur Grave Noir, builds on the sector dial’s clarity and legibility, blending it with the brand’s signature regulator layout for a new look. The new Louis Erard Regulateur Grave joins the brand’s Noirmont Metiers d’Art collection as a permanent addition alongside the Regulator with the Grand Feu Enamel dial introduced earlier this year as a limited edition; the two watches share the same case de
Event Recap: Sharing the Passion for Fine Watchmaking with Montblanc - Monochrome Watches
Last week we organized a very special evening, together with our friends of Montblanc. The evening was dedicated to ‘Sharing the passion for Fine Watchmaking’ and took place in the Montblanc boutique in Amsterdam. The main stars that evening were five of the magnificent creations from the Montblanc manufacture in Villeret.Montblanc’s manufacture in Villeret is to experts and knowledgeable collectors also known as the former Minerva manufacture. That means magnificently hand-finished bridges, levers, cams and plates, that are characteristic for the iconic chronograph movements and other calibres. The stunning creations from the Villeret manufacture are rare, maybe not as rare as the Heuer Autavia with prototype orange dial that we showed you yesterday, but rare enough to clear your schedule for an evening and visit the Montblanc boutique. Some of the timepieces from Montblanc’s Collection Villeret 1858And that is exactly what many of Monochrome’s readers did
