Khaki Pilot Pioneer Aluminum has an aluminum casing which is rather an unusual material for a watch. The bezel is a countdown bezel, enclosed within a black dial with luminous indexes as well as hour and minute hands. The luminous coating helps in reading time underwater as well as in the dark. The watch has water resistance features, which makes it very practical. It also has a double crown that enhances its functionality.

In-Depth: The History of the ETA 2824, The Mundane Calibre that shaped the industry
The ETA 2824 movement was a groundbreaking invention that left a lasting impact on the watchmaking industry. Introduced in the 1970s, the ETA 2824 quickly set the standard with its efficient mass production and reliable performance. It retained its popularity for over fifty years until the circumstances and demand for innovation led to the creation of the Powermatic 80, a movement designed to surpass the 2824-2 and uphold ETA’s legacy of excellence in the ever-evolving industrial process. Below is a summary of ETA 2824’s life, and it continues our series on mass-produced workhorse calibres that we started with the Valjoux 7750.Born to live strongIn the stories about the birth and origins of one of the most common watch calibres, the ETA 2824, which preceded the 2824-1 and 2824-2, I’ve encountered opinions mentioning Eterna’s 1955 calibre 1247 as a distant relative; some mentioned the Eterna-Matic, introduced in 1948, as a predecessor. Compared with the ETA/Valjo
Tudor Predictions 2024 - The Potential Return of the Tudor Oysterdate Big Block
A few days ago, the MONOCHROME team delivered our yearly forecast of potential launches for the 2024 Collection. As always, we try our best to guess what the Crown will be presenting at the watch industry’s largest fair, Watches and Wonders. While trying to imagine and design these potential models, we also started to think about its sister brand, Tudor. This year, we’ve had intriguing snippets of evidence about what could be the main new model to be released by the brand in April 2024… A mix of a unique piece presented for Only Watch and an unexpected return of Tudor to motorsports?as the partner of Visa Cash App RB Formula 1 Team, which made us realise that it could well be the year of the return of the Tudor Oysterdate Big Block Chronograph.?Brands like and Tudor don’t do things without a commercial reason. Brands of such stature don’t get involved in multi-million partnerships with a Formula 1 team without a commercial goal. There is, without a d
Ulysse Nardin Freak Vision (SIHH 2018) - Specs & Price
Last year, at the SIHH 2017, Ulysse Nardin introduced an impressive piece, a concept watch featuring no less than 10 major innovations, as a showcase to demonstrate the brand’s savoir-faire: the InnoVision 2.?Every part of this watch boasted an innovation, whether the escapement, the display, the winding system or even the hands. And while last year’s piece wasn’t meant to be commercialized, it is now time for Ulysse Nardin to deploy some of these features into serially produced pieces… Meet the?Ulysse Nardin Freak Vision. Background – The FreakThe Freak collection by Ulysse Nardin has always been a showcase to explore new technologies. Remember that back in 2001, the inaugural Freak was the first watch ever commercialized with an escapement made of silicon (or?silicium?in French) – an innovation that is now spread all over the industry. A proper game changer.?Later, in 2005, Ulysse Nardin chose to use a diamond escapement and that same year, they deb
Buying Guide - The Best Dive Watches of 2021 by MONOCHROME
Dive watches are among the most popular models available on the market. Virtually all brands, with only rare exceptions, have embraced the concept and now propose an alternative to the classics that are the Submariner or the Seamaster. There’s a good reason behind this popularity, as dive watches, even though not used for the initial purpose, are perfect for weekends or holidays, and are no-brainer choices when it comes to a robust sports watch. This year certainly wasn’t the most prolific in this field, yet we’ve some pretty cool introductions. As part of the “best of 2021” series and following our buying guide on the best chronographs of 2021, here’s our selection of our favourite dive watches launched this year.Editor's note: this list reflects the preferences of MONOCHROME's editorial team and results from an internal vote. This list is, of course, non-exhaustive and remains subjective. If there are other dive watches launched in 2021 that made a
Introducing the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 40mm Now Full Gold-Coloured
The Tissot PRX… A never-ending story, with one variation following another. The brand’s catalogue is now a collection comprising no fewer than 38 references, including quartz and automatic models, time-only or chronograph versions, in either 35mm or 40mm, on steel bracelets, leather or rubber straps. And then, there are the colours, ranging from classic black or blue to a cool ice blue dial. Until a couple of days ago, the collection comprised 37 references and a new one was just added. Using the familiar look that we discovered only two weeks ago, the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 40mm is now available in full gold-coated attire, a statement piece that uses this warm colour for its case, bracelet and dial.?While most of us will certainly picture the Tissot PRX as a full steel watch worn on a matching bracelet – this is how, according to us, the design makes the most sense – Tissot has long decided to offer variations. This includes watches with a leather or a rubber
